My son was in a nationwide contest where he wrote a short story/essay in high school about my childhood. He won.
Mine was too, but I left those parts out and only concentrated on the good stuff!

You might be surprised at what your story would mean to others. Take a trip down memory lane and do it. I am thinking of doing the same for my children and grandchildren. I would keep it with all the photo albums I have which, hopefully, someone will keep. I should push my husband to do the same. It doesn't have to be long and detailed. My mother encouraged my father to do it and then she did as well. We have all enjoyed reading their life stories.
If I write mine, I will include things like....the old telephones...party-lines....busy signals...TV where you had to get up and change channels. I want my grandkids' eyes to pop like WOW...REALLY??? YOU LIVED LIKE THAT??? HAHA! AHHH...the simple life!

I thought it might be fun just to write a short one for my DH to read. As I started compiling it in my mind, the project seemed overwhelming. With no diaries, the content would mostly come from memories and pictures. Then I wondered if some genealogy research would be helpful. It's at that point I gave up the idea.

I'm glad I posted this. At first I wasn't sure whether to ask everyone. But, your responses have been so positive I think I'm going to do it.
Thanks for all your feedback.

My great grandpa kept a little diary in Dakota, including the Civil War.
It is fascinating.
Has little notes about corn prices and the "disturbance".
