Brings to mind a coworker of mine who had 3 kids and a very busy life. When we would be talking and we would all be telling about what we did the night before she would just say "oh nothing to write home about". Then one day I ran into a former classmate of mine who was visiting from out of town and she asked me if I knew the woman who worked with me. She proceeded to say that this woman would bring daily meals to her aging parents who had medical issues, do their laundry and help with their housework and often did grocery shopping for them. She never said a word to anyone about it nor was a complainer that she never had time for anything like we always did. T

But she had told that other lady about all she did for her parents.

You said the co-worker had a very busy life so she must have talked about her life. It's only normal.

I'd rather have someone tell me about their "good deeds" they did for that day than for them to tell me they did nothing. What a boring conversation that would be.

What's wrong with telling the truth?

Do we know that, or do we just know that the other woman found out somehow - second or third-hand, all she did for her parents?

This was my thought too. Maybe the woman wasn't talking about what she did. Maybe the classmate found out second hand.

As an aside, I see we had to junk up this thread with the photos. {#emotions_dlg.thumbdown}

Perhaps we should ask the OP if she minds the photos. Somehow I think she would not. Wink

I'll try to explain without using the winking emotie: the OP isn't alone in this thread, there are many many posters here reading who have to wade through the pics.

Well, it's not only about the OP. It's a thread that many are participating in. I know I might be in the minority but it gets annoying to go through a thread, having a decent conversation, and you have to wade through goofy photos.

The so called goofy photos I posted are for bluegrassbaby and anyone else that might enjoy some humor. Let her tell me herself she doesn't like them and I'll delete every darn one of them.. sorry you have to wade through this thread....

Sorry you don't like the pictures. Many of us like them. Don't get the annoyance factor.

But there's always the ignore button.

Sorry you don't like the winkie either. Anything else? Guess we need a list and check it twice! There is always the ignore button. Kiss

Re: Have You Ever...Paid For The Order Behind You In Line

I have to admit I find the picture graphics nothing more than thread clutter. That's why I have never posted on the "pictures" thread.

It's nothing personal, but not everyone likes them. I prefer to communicate using words as descriptors.

Re: Have You Ever...Paid For The Order Behind You In Line

Sorry, just skimmed over the recent posts. These are my general thoughts, not directed at any poster.

I think a charitable foundation is different from a person broadcasting their individual acts of kindness. A foundation needs publicity to garner support, to survive.

Also, it muddies the water to introduce material possessions, in my opinion. Although I suppose it's case of "look at what I have" or "look at what I did." And, perhaps, the reason it's under discussion in the first place.

Seems to me a basic issue is a person's pattern. If they have a pattern of repeatedly announcing the details of their good deeds (or worldly goods), it becomes apparent to those who must listen. It's hard for us to be truly self-aware, so if we do this we might not realize how we're coming across, how it might be off-putting. (At the risk of invoking the "armchair therapist" chant, it might arise from a need for recognition, attention. We're all human.)

Whether we publicize it or not, our acts of kindness make the world a little better for someone else. Maybe a lot better.{#emotions_dlg.wub}

Anybody think it's ironic to be scolding people about their purchases on a bulletin board provided by a SHOPPING CHANNEL?

Re: Have You Ever...Paid For The Order Behind You In Line

Why can't someone say the do not like all the pictures, but it is ok to say you do like them?

Double standard?

I think they get out of hand, as do the emoticons. That is my opinion, if I am permitted to speak.
