Never took a speed reading class, but have always been able to read fast. In school I learned to skim for important data pretty accurately, which is speed reading more or less. I prefer not to read fast with fiction; the faster I read fiction and the more I'm tempted to skim, the book isn't a good one for me.

My son and husband are speed readers and like human calculators adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing multiple digits numbers in their heads. The human brain is amazing.

I love to read but take it in slowly. That way I retain it better.
Remember Evelyn Wood? I saw at a glance it wouldn't work for me when I was only 16.

I never took a speed reading class but I have always been able to read fast ever since grade school and I have devoured many a book! There are fun online tests to see how fast you are. The best tests ask "comprehension" questions when you finish the reading.

I took a speed reading course in HS - it served me well in nursing school and college.
