I actually like to go out to the movies. For the last several years I only go to those with large reclining seats and you have quite a bit more space between seats than the old style.
Certain movies are fun to see on the big screen. I went with some girlfriends to see Downton Abby when it came out and we had a nice dinner afterwards. While home is comfortable and many have a large screen, it's nice to get out for a change.
Who knows when we'll be back to any kind of normal though.

Last movie I went to was Toy Story. It was the last one. I happened to be visiting my 30 yr old granddaughter and we were looking for a cool hide out. It is really expensive 17@, I gotta senior discount, but still.... plus popcorn I don't know how families with children do it, lol. The lady in front of us paid 90 something dollars to get in. The movies are 1.5 to barely two hours and you are done! But it is nice to sit there with that big screen, and the sound.

@shoekitty- I haven't been to the movies in several years. I went with a few girlfriends and it was nice, but while we were watching the movie, there was a very minor earthquake and we all shook a bit. That was the last movie I attended. I'm happy watching at home. In the theater, the sound was way too loud, there were too many commercials and coming attractions, plus people are rude and play on their phone in the darkness. I can live without it, and now with the virus, I'll probably never go to the movies again.

Yes, I think theatrical performances - movies, plays, orchestral - are cooked for the time being. Maybe they'll come back after folks are vaccinated - if theater operators can hang on that long.

@Drythe I agree with everything you said. I can count on one hand the number of movies I've seen in a theater in 20 years.
Kids too young to be there. People who forget they aren't at home and won't shut up etc. They won't give me the volumn control so my ear drums aren't blown out.
Nope, give me my comfy clothes, my recliner and the remote to pause it if I need a bathroom break.

I have a family of 4: 2 adults, 2 kids. When we went to the theatre, the kids tickets cost $10/each, the adults $13 each, totaling $46 for the cost to sit and watch the movie at the theatre. Movie popcorn is the best, so of course we would spend another $20 to $30 on snacks and drinks. Last night from our living room, we rented the movie Scoob for $19.95 and had our own snacks, our own blankets, no noisy or inconsiderate people around us and we enjoyed the time together as a family. If movies begin launching on tv/live streaming apps, then we will stay home. It would have to be a really special movie for us to go to the theatre again to spend the money, let alone the increased risk of disease transmission, before I go to a theatre.

For me a movie theatre has about the same appeal as a public bath in ancient Rome!

Aw the 60s, go to the drive-in on a date. And don't remember what the name of the movie was.

I, for one have always enjoyed going to the movies.
If they can survive the Great Depression, then I am confident that they will survive this too.
Yes, I am perfectly well aware that things are different.
They didn't have tv, etc, but people have always gone to the movies, if for no other reason than to get out of the house.
People also said that the movie rental business was going to be the Denise of the movie theater, and they were wrong about that too.

@Meowingkitty I'm not sure it's safe to sit in a car with the engine running for two hours to keep the a/c or heat going.
