@Sooner,As you know, I taught design, and they have a position open. I quit Belk because of a hateful person that ran past me.  I almost fell into a case and mgmt wouldn't help me even though I had been a top seller for 5 yrs!   Wondering..........

GIve it a shot!  Talbots is almost unique in today's market:  They have clothing that is classic and most of it is intended to be worn more than one season and they coordinte pieces and colors from year to year to build a wardrobe rather than toss it all and be out of style.

I would think working in any phase of that operation would be satisfying work both at a design level and at a retail sales level.  You are looking to freshen each season, not do away with, and the line sees that you have to tools to do that.  Also would be challenging enough to appeal to YOU I think!  LOL!!

I'll keep my fingers crossed!  Might be a good fit for you.  But you always have to put up with some idiots, so I can't help you there!

Re: Have Any Of Us Worked For Talbots?

I am currently working at Talbots as a sales associate.  I can only tell you that the number of hours you will get will depend on your individual store.  I work in a store that is in a small shopping center so we do not keep those long mall hours.  We are open 10-7 Mon-Fri, 10-6 Sat and 12-5 Sunday.  THe hours vary week by week.  LAst week I worked 4 days for a total of 17 hours.  THis week I only have 2 shifts scheduled for 9 hours.   I get $9.00 per hr.  I am really working to,stay busy for a few hours a week and to get the employee discount.  All my pay goes right back to Talbots as a payment on my credit card.  I did have some difficulty getting used to being on my feet for. 4-5 hours straight but I am OK with it now.  I like the ladies I work with and enjoy helping the customer's.

@KathyPet,Thank you so much for your reply.  Late summer into fall I worked at Chicos and absolutely loved it.  After training the scheduling became so bad I got 10 hours total over a two week period, then 4 hours the next period!  They have a large amount of regular assoc. all working like this and the only ones who get 25-30 a week are managers.  When I looked on Indeed.com this seemed to be corporate wide.  I asked one of the long time associates (I've seen her there at least 15 years) how long the scheduling problem had gone on and she said about nine years.

May I ask how long you've been there?  Also, what size of city are you in and are your upcoming two 9 hr days your lowest week?  Thank you so much.

I worked for Talbots years ago,  they gave me more than enough hours..the pay was great! I worked in the store in Westport, CT..a very busy store...loved it..the managers and my fellow associates felt like family...very much enjoyed the experience.

@gracie2014Thanks for your reply.  There's somthing going on now being able to get a schedule with hours in small boutique type stores.  If you're not in a mall which closes at 9pm less hours are available then too.

Loved working at Chicos but couldn't get any hours.  October found me with 14 hours for the entire month and the same was happening with the other associates.  I was told it would only be managers from Jan-march. They run the store with asst. mgrs.  It seems to be the standard now.

Re: Have Any Of Us Worked For Talbots?

@ECBG

The store I work in is a Hour and a half drive from a major city so I am in the far flung suburbs  if you would even consider it a suburb.  I am sure the hourly pay is dependent on location.  OBviously someone working in a store in a large city is going to make more than I do.  I have been there since October.  THe number of hours you get will depend upon whether the store is at a full complement of employees or not.  THe job is perfect for me because it is just something fun to do for a few hours a week.  I certainly would not consider it as a major income source. I will tell you that I had no prior retail sales experience but I applied and they had no openings then.  AFter a couple of months the store manager called me and asked if I was still interested.  THe reason I was hired was that I have been a Talbot's customer for over 25 years and 90% of my clothes come from there.  AS a Talbot's employee you are expected to be thoroughly familiar with the fit and sizing so that you can actually help customers choose what looks good on them.  ISn't that a different experience from shopping at say Macy's?

What is the employee discount.  I know if I worked there I would owe them money.

Employee discount is 50% off retail price.  If you purchase something from a new grouping within the first week of it's being put out on the floor you get 60 %.
