Re: Has anyone had Ancestry DNA Testing?

I've been considering this for a January bday gift for someone who is very into her genealogy. She already knows about as much as she can know. Or maybe not? I do think it's a cool gift. But I wonder about security issues too.

@software I do and she did tell me she'd be happy to help me but it seems unfair to others to do something like that when just because I know some Mormons I wouldn't have to pay.  I paid for my daughter's account.  I'm not busting on anyone who does that (through other Mormons) I just have this 'thing' (I call it that drives me crazy) that when I get to the Pearly Gates St Peter says, "Annabelle remember the time you cheated"?  And my late husband (who'd been there for awhile....says, "Nanny, Nanny boo boo!"....Ha!  Keeps me straight!

Re: Has anyone had Ancestry DNA Testing?

So all day Daughter #1 (I call her) has been texting me telling me things about MY side of the family she's discovered!  This was one of the best gifts I've ever given her!

Don't you love it when you make people happy?  Don't you ESPECIALLY love it when you make your sweet kid happy?

Re: Has anyone had Ancestry DNA Testing?

I wasn't implying you do anything considered cheating.

If there are Mormons in your family, you have the right to search the Mormon genealogy as well as provide the Mormons with information they may not have from your family.

What I'm talking about has nothing to do with ancestry web site.

Apples & oranges.

And I'm sure the Mormons would take a donation to sooth your soul.

Re: Has anyone had Ancestry DNA Testing?

I got mine from Ancestry.com on sale for $79.  Unfortunately, it's still sitting on my desk unopened. I'll wait till after the Christmas rush and send it in. I know where most of my ancestors are from, but I am curious about any surprises, which always makes things exciting.

I'd like to know what they do with the results after you are informed.  Are they stored somewhere or destroyed?

Outside of your name on the sample, they don't mention specific people or ID's. From what I understand, you get kind of a map of all the places where your markers showed up in the world.

My daughter went through ancestrydna for $99 and was very happy with the process and the results. She must have gotten a special offer because she sent a link to me to get the dna test for $69. I sent the $ and got the kit but decided to wait until all the Christmas rush was over because I didn't want my package getting lost in all of the mail. Don't know why I would care at 71 years old, but call me curious.

Same with me. I'll wait till January.

No I have not. I'm adopted so I'm not sure what good it would do now at my age. I do get curious.

Re: Has anyone had Ancestry DNA Testing?

i called them, Ancestry, and they said the sale is not on now.  I have to wait.  I signed up and am waiting for the email for the reduced pricing.  She said usually toward holidays and I just missed this one.  I am going to do it.  I decided.  First for hubby and then for me.  He has dark hair, curly and olive toned skin.  He has been "taken" for numerious nationalities and we have made great friends because of this.   Nevermind I am alergic to most spices including curry. LOL  One of our oldest friends, now ill,   is positive hubby is from Bombay India.  Could be.  I am going to find out.  Woman Very Happy
