@Susan Louise, very interesting. Were you surprised at the results?

I haven't had the testing done, it doesn't matter to me. Did the company explain what happens to your DNA sample when they are done testing it? Always wonder about that when I see the ads.

@qvcfreak  Yes...

I'm adopted and all I knew was that I was German, Scottish and English...my biological father was Scottish/German and my biological mother was English/German...

So I expected the results to be roughly 50% Eastern European, 25% Scottish, 25% Great Britain...

I certainly have a bit of everything in Europe and a mini splash of Western Asia 'Caucasus'...which I thought was real cool! )

Re: Has anyone had Ancestry DNA Testing recently?

My husband bought me the Ancestry DNA kit for Christmas and I sent it in after the holidays.  It was such a great surprise!

I knew my mother was Eastern European.  And, my father was Italian/Sicilian.  So, my tests showed 50% Eastern European for my mother's side...and showed the countries that I was aware of.

However, on my father's side, it only showed 30% Italian/Sicilian.  The other 20% were from such areas as the Iberian Peninsula, Libya, Morocco, Syria, Western Asia, Great Britain, and a little Russian Jew of no specific country.  I found it fascinating.

I also have made contact with several people that showed up in my list of probable and possible relatives.  And, I found a few relatives that had taken the test, and they showed up also.

I want my husband and my daughter to take it next.  My daughter could show DNA from my side, that I don't show.  You don't inherit all of the DNA from your family.  Even siblings could show different results. So that would definitely be interesting.

As far as what they do with the spit vial....I really don't care.

Re: Has anyone had Ancestry DNA Testing recently?

My daughter gave me the kit for a Christmas present last year, and the test results didn't surprise me because of my prior genealogy research at least on one side of my family (my mother's side).  The result was that I'm 87 percent British ancestry with 13 percent being European lineage.  There were no surprises and no close unknown relatives, just a bunch of possible fourth cousins which are not really that reliable.  It's a fun thing to do yet I'd rather have a special rate for a year on the Ancestry site so I could find some documents and such.

@OnlyShopsOnline  ITA!  As for me...my breakdown is 30% Eastern European, 23% Western European, 21% Ireland (Scotland/Wales), 13%  Scandinavia...the rest in small amounts of Iberian Peninsula, Italy/Greece, Great Britain, European Jewish, Finland/NW Russia...99% European...1% West Asia...Caucasus...

Mind blowing for me...so fascinating! Smiley Happy

Re: Has anyone had Ancestry DNA Testing recently?

Did it but I mixed up the samples so hubby got my results.  They sent me out new kits just to make sure.  Very interesting results.  I really did know mine but hubby is more interesting, more diverse and gets stopped going through TSA checks at the airport LOL.  Had to find out why.

Re: Has anyone had Ancestry DNA Testing recently?

@Susan Louise, I used 23andme. It confirmed and explained a

major genetic fact that is very important to me. I had one big surprise which I want to explore. My plan is to have my DNA tested by Ancestry and maybe others to compare. I am extremely pleased with 23andme's process and follow-up. My original results were provided several months ago and I received additional fascinating personal information a few days ago.
