Has Anyone Used a Makeup Artist?

Have any of you used a makeup artist, say for a special occasion? I think I used one when my daughter got married but that was over 20 years ago when my skin was still kind of young.

We're planning a big celebration party and I'd like to get my makeup done. I was in Macy's and asked one of the girls at the Bobbi Brown counter if she knows if anyone does makeup on the side, and she said that she does. She said she uses Bobbi Brown makeup (surprise!) and she sprays and shaves everything between clients to sanitize. The price was reasonable, but I wonder if I'm going to look like a clown and have to remove all the makeup and apply it again after she leaves.

Anyone have any tips? Thanks!

Do you like Bobbi Brown makeup?  I think you should try the products first. Have her do a “trial run” to see what you think of her skills before the big party. Good luck!

Re: Has Anyone Used a Makeup Artist?

I’ve had my makeup done at Dillard’s for New Years Eve and told her what I liked. I was pleased and it didn’t cost anything.

@simplyfriends- see that's the thing. I've never used Bobbi Brown makeup so I don't know how it will work. Is it okay to ask for a trial run without paying? Or is there a charge? I'd like to see how it comes out first. I don't know how this works.

I called her this afternoon and left a voice mail but she hasn't gotten back to me.

Thanks for the heads up!

I've had it done by a makeup artist at my local spa.  I go in a couple of hours before the event.  I touch up just before I go.  I have them also put on my false lashes.

@sunala - Yes, you should be able to see her at Macy’s during her regular hours to do a trial make-up application for free.  Then if you like it you can hire her to come to your home on the day of the party if that’s part of your agreement.

@sunala

A makeup artist will usually apply on more makeup than you are used to but you will  get lots of compliments.  A trial run is always the usual way to go.   Agreeing with the false eye lashes and could just get a couple of singles at the ends of your eye.  It is a great eye lift and a very natural look.

Have a wonderful time at your event, you will look lovely.

Re: Has Anyone Used a Makeup Artist?

Once I had a friend that was really really really into the idea that all women needed to wear makeup.  So, I agreed to let her do my makeup for hubbys Christmas party.

Now, my idea of makeup is foundation, blush, eyeliner, mascara and light lipstick with gloss.  All very softly done.

Her idea is very different.  I got many compliments, (or surprise reactions), but I was so uncomfortable.  I swear it took days to clean my face without the use of a chisel.

I would go for a free trial somewhere,  I hear Ulta does them.

@sunalaIf you don't usually wear makeup or not that much, you probably will feel overwhelmed with makeup even though you will look great.  If you already wear makeup daily and know how to apply it then, in my opinion, you probably will not be happy with the look and should just experiment on your own for the best look.  I know for me - well I love makeup and know what works for me and what I like so I would never have makeup done by anyone else.  Bobbi Brown makeup is probably better than most as far as not feeling heavy.  I only use they eye shadow sticks and they are the best.
