Re: Has Anyone Used Feliway for Their Cats--Peeing Outside the Box

I used Feliway when my neutered male got jealous of a rescued kitty. He sprayed everywhere. In desperation I tried the Feliway spray and it saved us. He stopped completely. Now he is 17 and having kidney issues. Drinking lots of water is one sign. I would be sure to check to see if his kidneys are OK.

Re: Has Anyone Used Feliway for Their Cats--Peeing Outside the Box

I have four cats, I use the feliway diffuser and it helps sometimes. What is really great is this cat litter called Dr. Elseys's Cat Attract. All the cats love it the best! It's supposedly guaranteed to stop problem peeing. I have one kitty, a tortie, who tends to mark, and she is a little bit better with it. But the box with the Cat Attract is DEFINiTELY the most popular. It doesn't have a smell, and it's finer than the tidy cat, but it's scoop able. I highly recommend it. A little tiny bit more expensive, but worth it for no pee problems! You can get it at petco, or I get it from Amazon...I would try it.

Re: Has Anyone Used Feliway for Their Cats--Peeing Outside the Box

We had a cat that had accidents outside the box (peeing). She is since deceased this was years back. Feliway did not work.

So, I don't know what to tell you for your cat. Other than we had more than 1 cat when that cat peed and no others did it. We had numerous litter boxes and my husband cleaned and still continues to clean the boxes daily. We had no other problems with any of our other cats not going in the boxes back then or now (except for that 1)

To add IMO Feliway is a gimmick. Now one of our cats (out of 3) clawed up my lift recliner chair. It was also suggested to use Feliway for scratching (in addition to scratching posts of course and training) Feliway did not work. Nothing works for this cats clawing.

We are going to inquire about putting those nail covers on our cat at her next check up in 2 weeks.

What's the story w/ the other cat? Younger? Male/female? Had him/her for a period of time?

Hi Sidsmom, the other cat is the same age. Got them at the same time, although they were not biological siblings. It is a female too. She is the hissy one, so maybe the little one is tired of her being the alpha cat.

Anyway, I'll continue to monitor the situation. The larger one discovered where the little one was this morning...in the other room. I hope she doesn't go in there and try to take that room over too.

Thanks again everyone for your feedback.

I wonder if sometimes the litter hurts the bottom of their paws.

Hmmm...interesting, but I doubt it. They've been used to it for 15 years, and their paws get kind of callused. I also use a pretty fine litter.

Actually, she is doing much better today. I have sprayed the Feliway on all the surfaces where she usually lies, and she seems to like her own little private area in the other room. No accidents today...keeping my fingers crossed.

Apparently the Feliway is a pheromone just like the pheromone that is released from their cheeks when they rub their cheeks on something to mark their territory. So far; so good.
