Has Anyone Had Surprise From A Genetic Report?

I only have my mother’s genes available for testing.  It just came back as 100% European, overwhelmingly British and Irish.  Nothing interesting until I scanned down and found Sardinia included from awhile back!

It’s a beautiful large Island adjacent to Italy but autonomous from it.  DD and I have been reading about the history.

Has anyone else had a genetic surprise?

@Noel7  The Irish settled the Southern part of Italy way back when which is why you may have a relative or two down that way.

I have a sneaking suspicion I have Irish in me even though my grandparents are all from Southern Italy and France.  Two of my grandfather's brothers had red hair so, if I ever test myself, I wouldn't be shocked to find Ireland in there somewhere.

Hi @Laura14

I hadn’t heard that, thanks for the information.  I recently found out I am also 12% French, I thought that might be the connection.  Sardinia is below Corsica which has had a large French presence.

I love this kind of research, it’s fascinating!

@Noel7  I'm very curious!  I am debating on doing it as a gift to myself since they are all on sale now.

I looked up Italy's history since I was so curious about how an Italian had red hair.  My grandparent's family is an Italian from Naples who sailed into Nice, France and picked up a French chick.  They married and sailed for America.

Very cool stuff!

Hi @goldensrbest

I thought I might have because of one family name, but no.

Do you have a living father or brother?  I don’t and can only trace half my genes.

Re: Has Anyone Had Surprise From A Genetic Report?

When they list the thousands of possible relatives the #1 match was actually my first cousin.

I was pleased to see someone I know as a cousin a great match.
