I was just thinking back about 1970 when the first Earth Day was celebrated and demonstrated. I was 15yo. In many ways not much has changed in the environment. It's probably worse now than ever. The air I breathed back in 1970 was less polluted than the air I breathe today. My water isn't any cleaner either.

@SilleeMee      I can't believe people used to come to Phoenix "for their health".

Teach my Grand Child Not to litter as many people do ......

A country road shortcut that I take , someone or  some people have a penchant to dump old mattresses or recliner chairs  on that raod. It's disgusting .  Private  builders have been building  townhouses on that road for the last 2 yrs . I thought people dumping crape on that raod would end but it has not because  some one dumped another matteresss and chair there. Hope they put up security cameras to fine whoever is doing the dumping.

Maybe it's because the towns charge for disposing everything now. Each item is $10-$20. When we lived in Maine the dump had a bin for anything you wanted to dispose of. Cost could be a factor for littering. You were not a Mainer until you took more home from the dump than you brought in. lol

Everytime I see trash outside I have to pick it up. I hate to see it.

I use a bag or gloves. Sometimes I tell myself I don't have to pick up everyone's trash and I'll pass it by but then later pick it up. It makes me sad to see it so I feel better when its not there.

There is a manmade lake near us that never has trash in it. It is so beautiful! Don't you think that's amazing not to see any trash?! It has fountains too. I don't know who it is maintained by.

There is so much trash in the gutters around here in my neighborhood. I would need a truck to get it all picked up. It's pretty bad. I hate it. Some abandoned cars, too, along one stretch of road.

One nice thing about the ban on plastic bags is I'm seeing less and less of this:

We also reuse our plastic grocery bags, though I try to shop using our cloth grocery bags. We try to recycle and in California we can no longer put our food waste in the trash can. We also strive to conserve water, a truly precious resource. Hopefully, these small things will help but we have a long way to go. Happy Earth Day 🌎
