Haven't prices always gone up? The good economic news doesn't get enough play.
When food prices go down then I will be happy. I buy organic and gluten free and it is taking its toll as I am sure it is with others. Not trying to be s Debbie downer..

You're not a DD, just a realist. Smiley Wink

But although your body must have gluten-free, organic is most times much more expensive, and only some can afford it on a regular basis. Couldn't you just get non-organic produce until the prices actually do decrease to what you can really afford?

Thanks feline that is good advice. Smiley Happy I have taken to shopping around and sticking to my budget.

I hate to burst your bubble...but when times get better, consumption goes up, so gas prices go up.

We had very LOW gas prices right after the market crashed....who wants THAT back???

Yeppers.

And as many drivers in the U.S. constantly whine over gas prices, they forget to think of Europe and other places where the price is always much worse and count their blessings.

And many of the world's countries are often much poorer than our wealthy, entitlement issues-heavy one.

Gawd, there are so many things you can do to help yourself out in this regard, like combining errands, keeping your car in good shape, stopping the truly unnecessary driving, and realizing that it - and your own vehicle - are privileges, not rights.

I'm happy with how our investments are doing, although I hear the Market finished "flat" today.

I'm pleased with most of ours.

It does seem as though every time I go grocery shopping, the prices continue to climb.

I agree.

For me, the price of gas is one of the costs of owning a car. It's a necessary expense, and not one that I can control, so I have to budget and plan for it. Therefore, I eliminate other discretionary spending in order to afford to fill up the tank.

Fortunately, I don't have to drive far on a regular basis, so I can often make a tank of gas last at least a month. However, during those times when I do have to make multiple trips over a longer distance, I do notice it. Do I wish it were lower? Sure. But complaining won't help.

By the way, I saw an interesting documentary the other night. It was made in 2006, but I hadn't seen it. It was interesting because we haven't come far in eight years. I highly recommend it. It's called "Who Killed The Electric Car?"

I think it's great that it's finally pretty much proven that the economy is truly getting better, in spite of what some would like us to think. {#emotions_dlg.thumbup} It's been getting better for a good while now, but the numbers are what counts.

However, I still have a problem with the fact that so many things go up every year, but the CPI index that's used to determine the Social Security COLA doesn't seem to include the things that go up. I've done a little research, but I haven't found out what exactly IS included. My Medicare Supplement premium goes up, my part D plan premium goes up, my homeowner's insurance, car insurance, food prices, electricity prices, etc. etc. etc. And I KNOW they went up WAY more than the 1.5% COLA increase for 2014. And how do they say there is no inflation or very little if the cost of so many things goes up?

You can tell I'm no economist, I just wish I could find answers to some of these questions. {#emotions_dlg.confused1}

from USA Today

Liz Ann Sonders, market strategist for Charles Schwab, told CNBC that Argentina's woes weren't the prime reason for Thursday's down draft. Bullish sentiment has somewhat weakened due to weak European economies. Given strength in the U.S. economy, there are also fears that the Federal Reserve will hike interest rates sooner than some expected. After protracted gains, stocks could be due for a correction, but the market is not overvalued, Sonders said.
