Yes I feel happier now,I am more relaxed, with no real responsibilities. When I was young, with 3 children,a full time job,a husband to please ,lots of housework, and watching my money carefully...Now ,its just the two of us, we do as we please,we live at the beach...except for a few health problems,Ide say we are very lucky people!!

Age 66...

I retired at 50 & never looked back.  Each day above ground is good enough for me.  6flagsdancingman.gif

I retired just three weeks ago!  It still feels odd to be at home during the day, but I bet I can make the adjustment!  LOL

I don't know anyone who isn't happy in their retirement but I suspect that's because the retirees I know don't have any money concerns and are relatively healthy.  Also, I think people who have active social lives, who have reason to get up in the morning tend to be happy in life.  If you are struggling financially and lonely and bored, it must be hard to be happy.

I guess you could call me retired. In reality I got laid off from my job 2 1/2 years ago and chose not to go back to work. I don't think there's anything they could get me to go back to corporate America ever again.

Re: Happiness at retirement

[ Edited ]

I was forced into an early retirement at the age of 47 because of a disabling disease. There is nothing more heartbreaking than loosing the job that I absolutely loved. I wish I could still be working...I'm 61 now and not really happy with "retirement". It's more like frustrated with retirement.

Well, you make your own happiness no matter what stage of life you're in.  But, yes, I'm happier since I retired in June, 2015.  It was an adjustment finding myself with so much me time, lol.

We're not in the retired bunch with a lot of money but it's enough.  To be honest, though, I do worry a little about the 'what ifs' that can happen to negatively impact this happiness that we have.  But that's borrowing trouble, isnt it.

I was teacher.  Retirement is like having Saturday everyday.  It doesn't get much better than that!

I retired at fifty six because I had an enlarged heart. I went on disability. It did bother me. First the shock of having a serious health problem then a new way of living. Now I truly enjoy the life I have now. Feeling very grateful.

This is the best time of my life.  Highly recommend retirement.  Smiley Happy
