Halloween Costume Suggestions

So...I've been told that I have to dress up for Halloween at work. Thing is, many of the costumes available in retail stores are either trashy or ridiculous.

I'm looking for something that doesn't look stupid, trashy, or offensive that I can wait tables in (not too cumbersome or uncomfortable).

Any ideas for commercially-produced or homemade costumes would be appreciated. (Links to photos would be great too, if you have any.)
