@docsgirl, I have a friend that has an Etsy shop for her handmade cards.  She does well but I think she is underpricing herself.

I can buy one from her and even with the postage charge, they are less than half of a Hallmark Signature card.

The inside of hers are blank and that's okay with me.

Hi Celtic,

The reason I started making my own cards was becasue I would find a card I loved but didn't care for the inside sentiment.  My cards are blank on the inside so I can write what I feel is most appropriate.  When people ask me for a card, they are blank so they can write their own sentiment.  My friends always look forward to receiving a homemade card from me and I love to create them.    docsgirl

I was pleasantly surprised to see that they had switched over.

The other brand was getting a little old, as in the same cards year after year.  I wonder how many times I sent the same card to the same person!

Tender Thoughts was the brand.  Everyone could tell they were purchased at a dollar store!  LOL Smiley Happy

Well, I"ve been getting really great - very lovely actually - Hallmark cards for free.  Hallmark Crown card holders have been offered Free Card Friday.  It's been going on since May and will end at the end of August (although it was supposed to end at the end of July but was continued for another month).   Show your Hallmark Crown card and get a free card from one particular Hallmark line.  They are excellent quality cards - very good card stock and a lot of them have glitter which I like (and a lot don't too, if you don't like it).  They ring up $2.99 and then Hallmarks takes the price off and the card is free.

It's a promo to get people into the store where hopefully for Hallmark they'll buy something else while they are there. I notice that there are no birthday or sympathy cards offered in this free line of card, which figures.  Hallmark probably would like you to purchase a birthday or sympathy card while you are there.  But wowza, I 've gotten a ton of free cards this summer - I go every Friday and went today too.  There are blank ones, as well as the message ones, so I'll be set for card for a good long while.   I was surprised at what a good quality card Hallmark is giving away every Friday!   It's really been a treat!

I still like to send and receive greeting cards....I think Hallmark is having a hard time now that so many people don't send them anymore. They seem to count on their Christmas ornaments now more than ever. Will have to check out the Dollar Tree tomorrow!

Re: Hallmark Cards now in DollarTree!

I have never spent $8 on a greeting card....most younger people barely look at them.

Re: Hallmark Cards now in DollarTree!

I can't remember the last time I was in a Hallmark store.  Seems that many people are also buying their cards, gift wraps etc. elsewhere b/c every time I pass the store in a mall there is little to no customers.

We have an older family friend and send her cards. She loves to get them. I usually buy them from the Dollar Tree.

@conniekl  I"ve never seen Paparyrus cards at any kind of dollar store.  I sure wish I had - they are my favorite cards.  Target carries them as do many other places - all for retail (full) price.
