Some years ago, in the 70s as I remember, we stayed on Daylight Savings into the winter. It created a problem for children who had to either wait  for their bus or walk to school in the dark. It was a safety issue then and will be now. I don't  mind the twice a year time change, but if that's to be eliminated than Standard time should be chosen. It's makes the most sense.

Around here I don't see many kids waiting for a school bus. The bus practically picks them up in front of their house. Most mommy's and daddy's take the kids to school every single day judging by the traffic.

@Meowingkitty

Your comment made me laugh. I remember one of my good GF's telling me an amusing story about kids and getting to school. Before her husband passed last year they would walk six days a week. They happened to pass a house on their walk where a H.S. kid was getting into the parents car. By the time they made it to the school, since it's such a long line for dropping of kids the saw the same car in line with the student. I remember her saying what the precious little angel could not walk two blocks to school.

I sent an email to my US Representative today urging her to support the DST bill.  Took very little time and effort.

@Kachina624

Thank you for the reminder. I am going to send one off as well. Dear Lord, please let this happen. I love DST.

Oh no dear book friend, we have to have it as dark as soon as possible to curl up with our reads.  Bring on the night!!!!Heart

@beckyb1012

It's for selfish reasons that I prefer DST. I just get more done after work when light is still available.   :-) But I have to admit that you have a point.  I do not read until it get's dark. It's very hard for me to read when it's daylight. I feel as if I should be doing something.

As if winter wasn't depressing enough, who needs total darkness at 4:30 pm?  DST gives you another hour to get things done, see your home in daylight, commute in light instead of pitch darkness.

My mom always said they got DST backwards, wouldnt it have made more sense for adjusting clocks to give more daylight hours in the WINTER months!!

@Spurt    I just love long summer evenings and hate short winter afternoons.

Really,  with all the other very important issues needing resolve.

 Guess this measure will  feed the poor and hungry, eduacte  children of America and save the world.

I think  big business   want this to save money . I know where I used to work many employees showed up late every time there was a time  change from Daylight savings time to EST  .

@skatting44    It's a relief to think about something other than feeding the poor and hungry, educating children, and saving the world.  Punctuality wasn't a problem where I worked.

There's a "code" you have to put in now to change your car clock. Found out about it today when I had my oil changed. Have read standard time is better for our circadian rhythm (body clock) but I think just leaving it alone now would allow everyone to adjust to the daylight/ dark times. I like the longer days.

Re: Half way to having Daylight Savings Time permanent

According to what I read online, Senator Rubio was one of the sponsors of this Sunshine Protection Act and after the approval in the Senate it goes to the House of Representatives and then to President Biden to sign. But here's the thing: supporters agreed the change would not take place until November 2023 after input from airlines and broadcasters.

I read that the bill could be blocked in the House, so don't get hopes up too high. It might not happen, after all.

Well, since it was unanimous in the Senate, I doubt there could possibly be enough resistance in the House that would prevent passage.   Well, we'll know soon enough.

I second your choice!

I agree.  One more vote for standard time.

Sent a message to my Congresswoman this morning asking her to advocate for standard time.  Had a town hall meeting with her tonight and she asked her constituents to let her know how they wanted her to vote.  Glad I got my vote in earlier today.

Re: Half way to having Daylight Savings Time permanent

The issue is that there is no agreement on which time should be chosen. As is evident here, some want permanent DLS, some Standard, while others want it to remain as the twice a year change. Perpetual DLS has been tried and failed, so that choice won't work.

Well, I remember having to work an extra hr or two becuse people didn't show up on time  at the hospital .

I forgot that  this was tried once back in  Jan 1974 . Guess, somehow I forgot abt it because Congress changed the law in Sept of 1974 .
