@sidsmom.  I certainly meant no criticism of you.  Wouldn't shoot the messenger.  As @Mominohio says, paraphrased, its become so commonly used that its becoming meaningless.  The half staff used to be reserved for major American heroes who'd made big contributions to our society.  Now it's anybody or group that dies under sad circumstances.
