I received a phone call this afternoon which I did not answer. It was an unknown number to me. A voicemail from HSN was left advising me to read the Privacy Policy at the bottom of the home page.
I know we had a discussion of QVC sending an email about its Privacy Policy.
I read the policy and my eyes glassed over. It could mean anything. I know I was not put here to be a member of the legal profession. Could some of you who can understand the implications please explain how it actually impacts us? Should we take any kind of action?

The past week or so I have gotten this "privacy policy" email from various places. Don't understand why now all of a sudden???

I don’t know about elsewhere, but California passed a law in 2020 called the California Privacy Rights Act that expanded the definition of personal information. Enforcement was delayed until July 2023 companies for required to expand their explanations of the type of information they collect from us and how it is used.
So, a flurry of updated and verrrrry long Company privacy policies that shows the vast array of information they collect from including all kinds of tracking information. They also are required to communicate information on your consumer rights with regard to your personal information.
It should include information on how you can opt out of certain data collection with their disclaimer that certain things might not function as well when you interact with them.

@bikerbabe Thank you for your explanation. That explains the sudden rash of notifications.

I don't know but recently I have received privacy notifications from several companies I do business with. I don't know why.

I assume it's part of being transparent especially when it involves customer relations and laws regarding what actions we can take to protect our privacy.

Privacy seems the wrong word somehow. Let see, they know where we get our deliveries, who we send gift to, all our emails, all our credit card numbers, phone number, what vitamins we order, bra size, ...
Some how I wonder if a camera caught us taking out the trash at 7:03 in our pj bottons. It has been noted đź¤

This has been going on for years. It's not just QVC or HSN.
Next time you apply for anything, read the fine prints, or read your Credit Card Statements from any Company.
They have to notify you, but I don't know how often.
