HOW MUCH DOES A HANDYMAN GET PAID

I am having all my wall to wall carpeting taken out...front room...bedroom...a long hall and three closets worth...

Lots of  heavy furniture....to move....along with "stuff" hanging in the closet and things sitting on the furniture...(I am unable to do it myself)

The maintenance man from my apartment is doing all the work alone...he is a hard worker and has made considerable progress in the three and a half hours he was here today....

Tomorrow he will tackle the bedroom...which has two chests of drawers...two nightstands..and coatrack...and tons of other things sitting around plus a closet full of things...oh, and the bed is a king size...

That pretty much tells it all...he has kept it so clean as he moved along...no dust storms...nothing left on the hardwoon floors...

He says to pay him what i want....I don't want to cheat him...but I don't know what to give him...

I could use some suggestions....

It depends where you live   $45-$55/hour for me, depends on their skills.    Some can do minor electrical work or plumbing, so they can charge more.

Where I live I think $20 per hour would be average

Re: HOW MUCH DOES A HANDYMAN GET PAID

It totally depends on where you live.  We live in rural KS where labor is WAY cheaper than in the cities.

Do you have any idea what he works for per hour as the maintenence man?  If you do, I would pay him that.

I would say if he works hard and fast and stays off his cell phone, etc. in this area $20-$25 an hour would be fair.  I know that will seem cheap if you live in a big city.

$50 an hour would be a good start.

Re: HOW MUCH DOES A HANDYMAN GET PAID

Depends on who is paying for the new rugs, you or management???

Based on what you posted between $200-$300 if you are paying for the rugs.

$50-$100 if management is paying.  Maintenance is "doing his job"  if he is doing all that work "on the clock."

I notice he is not doing any "techical/electrical/plumbing type work.  However, he is doing a lot of heavy/physical labor and as you said, he's doing a neat job.  I'd probably pay him at least $50 and hour.

I would go with the around $50  price.  So far it will cost you $150 that is cheap for all he has done, and the fact he is cleaning up after himself

Re: HOW MUCH DOES A HANDYMAN GET PAID

I know people with master's degrees that don't make $50 an hour.

My brother does maintenance and he charges $20 an hour.
