I agree with esme. I read a few articles about this. He was tied to a fence or something dreadful, which is as bad . However, there was a black gentleman that was dragged by a couple of cretains some years back, perhaps you have them confused?

@debdc...Matthew Shepard was a drug dealer beaten by an occasional lover in a drug rage over drugs. See the book The Book of Matt, written by a gay journalist, so no bias there. The story of a persecuted gay man is more sympathetic than the truth.

There is a lot of criticism and debunking of that author, Stephen Jiminez, and his book.
Being a gay author does not mean he had no biases. There are oher biases and agendas that can affect his "story".
Choosing to believe his version doesn't make it the truth.
And, not buying into his version doesn't mean anyone is afraid of the truth, either.

The post on HONY makes no sense on several levels. I doubt its veracity.
In the first place, what human on earth is universally liked? I'm straight, and not everyone likes me. Why on earth would someone be allowed to grow up and feel like everyone is supposed to like them?
Where are this boy's parents?
Yes there will be people who dislike him because he is gay. There are people who dislike you because you are straight. There are people who dislike you because of the expression on your face, the house you live in, the way you look or speak or any number of things.......
My goodness I would hate to raise a child with the mindset that everyone is going to like them, which is another reason I find this post hard to swallow.
You can't believe everything you read on social media, to put it mildly.

I had a child in my kindergarten class who's goal in life was to be a Playboy centerfold. She wanted to be HOT. Oh, she had reasons but I always thought it was creepy for a 5 yo.

If the word "homosexual" was replaced with "heterosexual" would you doubt the veracity of the post? If the answer is no then I would sit myself down and consider the whys of that.
Young people have fears and insecurites that adults shrug off. The important thing is that they know they are not alone. The "truthiness" of the HONY post is almost less important than the messages from the hundreds of thousands of ordinary people who have extended their words of kindness and support to the gay community, no matter how young.

Yes, I'm aware young people have fears and concerns that adults shrug off. That's why I wonder where this person's parents are and why this is being played out on social media.

I have to say that after reading through this thread just now, what flabbergasts me is the idea that a young child knows nothing about sexuality. It's just unbelievable. Maybe some don't want to admit it, but sexuality in one form or another is present from a very, very young age. It isn't something that just pops up one day

I haven't read anything to date about this young man's parents. Personally I'm not wondering about their whereabouts. As for this being played out on social media it originated on FB. Isn't most everything these days spread via social media? Nothing unusual about that.
