@beach-mom   Thank you very much.  I am so glad that Toni in her spring dress, litfted your sprits and brightened your day.

I have always loved spring, having a May birthday.

Easter was always special. Shopping for a new outfit, shoes, pocketbook, hat and gloves. Everything new to wear to church on Easter Sunday.

Of course we loved coloring the Easter eggs and getting our baskets of beautiful candies.

I loved doing all those things for my children too, especially dressing my three little girls in dresses that I made and all the accessories to complete their outfits.

To me Spring is the happiest season, so full of hope and new life.

@Enufstuff - My mom made my Easter dresses too, always with matching coats! We lived in the south, so my coats were lightweight.

I'll bet your girls looked beautiful. My daughter also looked cute, but her dresses were bought. My mom always took care of that, as her friend owned a children's clothing shop. DD had a lot of Nanette and Polly Flinders.

We dyed eggs every year, and Sunday after church we had an Easter egg hunt. They went to area ones too, but I started doing our own. They had to find the number of eggs equal to their age. If they found them all they would get a small prize.

We kept this up until they were teens. DH got tired of hiding 20+ eggs!  Smiley Wink

As a side note, I must say that I think that you @SportyShorty07 , are one of the kindest posters on this board!  Your mama raised you right, as we southerners would say!  You are always so kind and respectful to anyone and especially to seniors.  Just my observation 😃. Have a nice evening.

Re: HAPPY SPRING

[ Edited ]

@on the bay  Not to sound like  a mother of dancers who is a host on the Q, we were all dancers.

My girls all started when they were 3 years old with tap and ballet. They did both for a couple or years and then my oldest daughter just stayed with tap and she did that until high school.

My second daughter did acrobatics until high school.

My youngest daughter stayed with ballet all the way through college. She also taught ballet.

When I was 4-5 years old I did tap. When I was 8 I wanted to do ballet and my father would not support my doing that. I didn't give up that dream until I was 14.

As an adult, when my girls were in dancing school, there were adult jazz classes and I joined that. Later I took jazz classes

with three other instructors.

It wasn't until my 30s that I fell in love with Middle Eastern dance. I went to a Middle Eastern restaurant in Boston and watched the dancers. I was mesmerized by their gracefulness,

the choreographhy and the beautiful costumes and veils.

I knew that I had to do that. I went back to a studio where I had previously gone for jazz classes. The instructor had asked me before, to join her belly dance class, but I was not ready to do that at the time. Now I was ready.

She taught Greek style dance and I stayed with her for two years. Then I discovered other styles and studied with several instructors, some American and I went to weekend workshops in Boston with instructors from Egypt and Lebanon.

My last instructor was one of the top dancers in Boston. I took classes and was in shows for seven years. One year, my middle daughter took classes with me and we did a show together.I did the choreography for  our dance. That was fun.

I made all my costumes and collected a lot of Egyptian jewelry. I danced into my 40's.

@on the bay  That is our dance story, now, aren't you sorry you

                       asked?

@beach-mom  How wonderful that your mother made dresses with matching coats. They must have been beautiful.

One Easter, I did make lined capes for my girls, but never made Easter coats. Making the dresses was really enough for me to do.

I had five children to dress. My two sons are younger than the girls. One year,  I did make a little one piece sailor suit with short pants for my son, he was two. I didn't really sew for the boys.

My girls never had Nanette dresses, but they did have Polly Flinders. Polly F. dresses were beautiful. I loved the smocking on those dresses. One Easter, I made pastel colored dresses for them with smocking.

Your Easter egg hunts sound like fun and I'm sure are lovely Easter memories, for your children. We never did that, after church we had relatives to visit. Dinner at in-laws and then visit my two grand mothers to see all the aunts and cousins.

@Coastalcarolina   You are so right!  She is a very sweet and kind young lady. She has great communication skills with us seniors.

I feel like she is an "old soul".

No @Enufstuff,

I loved reading about yours and your daughter's dance journeys!

My sister got into belly dancing too and loved it. Was doing it up until about a year ago. That is very neat that you were drawn to it too!

My youngest daughter was in a dance group for quite awhile.

I always loved ballet and doing it but I don't think it loved me when I got older! You know bones and things-ouch.

@Coastalcarolina  You are such a tender heart to write such a sincere compliment Smiley HappyHeart! Thank you so very much for such kind words!  I love my Mommy and Daddy and sisters very much and my parents raised us to always be kind to each other and others.  I have great respect for all ages, but I do have a special soft spot for senior citizens.  In a time where so many young people say "ok boomer" and other offensive terms, I am a proud supporter and friend to seniors and I admire all they have accomplished and earned in life. I give seniors my seat on the bus, I offer them my arm if they need to walk steadily and I like to hear their stories and take the ones I know on fun outings.  I hope that you have a very nice evening too- you made my day! Smiley Very HappyHeart

@on the bay   So you have a dance family too! Isn't it wonderful?  There are so many beautiful forms of dance.

Just listening to the music, feeling it and interpreting it through movement. It's so magical.

What kind of dancing did your daughter do?

Was your sister's dancing  a particular style?

I like the sinuous Egyptian style of dance.

You are so fortunate to have done ballet. But, it is very strenous.   That was the first style of dancing that I fell in love with, even though I could never take classes.

I have been to the ballet a few times to see The Nutcracker, Swan Lake by The Boston Ballet. We saw The Bolshoi perform Petrushka.
