Those photos of old Albuquerque are the greatest, @just bee ! Cannot tell you how much I love midcentury images of cities, especially Southwestern ones.
My family had some great photos of back when they lived for a period in Tucson and in Cochise County ( this was long before Prescott) , and I get the same feeling, (on a smaller scale than Albuquerque of course) from them.
Thanks so much for posting such evocative images of Route 66 land....

Speaking of diners...
Lindy's had been in business since the 1920s.
And then this happened... last week.
An Albuquerque landmark.
An update.
Inside this historic building was the restaurant, two art studios, a workspace and a small apartment. Inside the apartment were 37 cats.
The owners have been informed that they will need to tear down this 121-year-old building.
It's sad.

Oh, it's a tragedy, @just bee , on many levels. I hope they were able to save cats, but can imagine that was difficult if not impossible. It looks like it was such a special landmark.

They're trying to find them homes, but that's always a challenge.

They opened this in our town last year.

Thanks to @Oznell for starting the thread and to all who shared pictures and stories. Great memories! DH and I have travelled on part of it. Now I am thinking we should start in Chicago and travel the whole route! Memories, memories......a good time gone by........

There is a Route 66 in a Northern Virginia suburb, a route heavily used by drivers commuting into and out of DC. For those who know, is this part of the famous historic Route 66?

@Oznell - TY for this wonderful thread! You were right in the middle of some great memories! A lot of you all were. And @Kachina624 , you're right in the middle now!
And @Desertdi - As a huge Eagles fan, I never knew where exactly Winslow, Arizona was, but I do now! "Take It Easy" is one of my favorite songs, and was voted #2 of the Eagles' favorites playlist.
I look forward to seeing more pictures and reading more memories.
"My" Route 66 was probably Route 40, then I-95, which I knew as the Kennedy Highway. My dad drove up from Georgia to visit our relatives up north. ![]()

@ThinkingOutLoud. Your Rte 66 is probably a State Highway and nowhere near US Rte 66.
