Not only the sheets... but, a new bed, mattress should be brought every eight years. People at least some are sloppy pigs.

I buy new sheets all of the time. I like buying new bedding, but buying a new bed every eight years? Why would a bed need replaced when it's in great condition. Wood furniture can last for generations.
My mattress is over eight years old and it is clean and always protected, not dirty in the least. I have a mattress encasement cover. I have double pillow tops and I rotate my mattress often. I will replace it when it is worn out and no longer comfortable.
The so called experts are from the mattress industry who want you to spend your money more often, so they suggest a new one every seven to eight years.
I just replaced the mattress in one of my RV's last September because it was no longer comfortable. When I put it out at the curb, several people stopped to look at it. They asked why I was throwing out a good mattress. It looked like new, but slept like old.
Also so many people can't afford to replace their mattress that often. Some are thousands of dollars. If they are still comfortable and clean, why get rid of it? It doesn't make sense to me.

@YorkieonmyPillow wrote:@blackhole99 Don't think they bathe patients anymore, either, unless they're in ICU --- maybe there.
A relative was just in ICU after a complicated surgery. He was there for 10 days. He asked them to wash his hair and shave him; they never did - it didn't happen until he came home at 14-15 days. No bathing either.
@Moonchilde That's disturbing. Our hospitals are getting so bad we might as well be in a third world country. That's just inexcusable. It's greed and laziness!!

And some are really gullible and buy into the mattress barker's "oooh, dust mites, must buy every 8 years!" sales pitch. There's one born every minute.

I wash my sheets once a week. I read that Jackie Kennedy required clean sheets every day but it is not likely she laundered them herself. What is even more gross is a survey I read years ago that said Europeans changed their underwear once a week.

If going that route, what's even more, MORE gross are Americans
just using a dry, thin piece of paper to wipe away urine & feces.
At least the Europeans embrace the bidet.
If you think about it...it's really gross we just 'wipe' urine/feces away.
How is THAT ok?
No water. No soap.
Say, if we got baby's urine/feces on our hands, we would wash it
off with soap & water....but yet, as American adults, we just dry wipe our own urine/feces away multiple times a day.
Just like the bed sheet obsession....why is our underwear getting that
dirty in the first place? We even have a commercial to sell wipes so we can 'go commando'. Ewwww. What was there BEFORE?
America needs to embrace the bidet.
Maybe that's why European underwear is cleaner.

If I won the lottery, and could build my dream house, my bathroom would include a bidet.

OMG! That is too funny. In most of Europe you are not supposed to put soiled toilet paper in the toilet. Instead, there is a wicker basket with no liner supplied for that purpose. Talk about gross!
i like Europe and the people there, but there is no way they are cleaner than most Americans. They think Americans are crazy because we take a daily shower and and are Obsessed with cleanliness.
