I have a question for those that use a grocery delivery serivce like Peapod, Instacart, etc.

How do you like it?  Is it worth the extra money?.  Some places like Peapod adds a service fee toward how much groceries you order.  Do you tip the driver?

Nearly all supermarkets offer online ordering, but you must go to pick up.  I'm interested in the ones that deliver to your home.

Re: Grocery delivery service

I use the ShopRite Supermarket home delivery service for my mother. She calls me and tells me what she wants (we live in different states) and i place an online order for her. You can arrange for a delivery time, take advantage of specials, coupons, and the delivery charge is well worth it. My mother said that a couple of times there was a piece of fruit that wasn't just right but she called ShopRite and they gave her a credit toward her next order. Mom will be 95 on Friday and lives at home with an aide. This service has been a godsend.

Re: Grocery delivery service

My Safeway store delivers groceries. They charge 9.95 for purchases over 150 and 12.95 for anything less. There is also a fuel surcharge. I don't use this service because I live very close to this store and it would not be feasible for me to use it.

Re: Grocery delivery service

I used Peapod three or four when my hubby was recouperating from Hip Relacement surgery. I liked it but I still like to shop and pick out my own items

Re: Grocery delivery service

I use E.Z. Pantry.

You call your order in from a catalog.

Foods are purchsed from Shoprite.

Meats from a family owned butcher shop.

You can pay by personal check

, money order or cc.

Delivery is FREE on Fridays.

Sometimes the company will snail mail $10 off coupon for your next order.  no expiration date.  I have a stack of coupons.  Will be using them in a few months as I will be making a huge meat order to stock up my freezer.

Yes I tip the driver because they bring your groceries right into your kitchen.  Unpack & store for you if needed.

I've always hated grocery shopping.

Re: Grocery delivery service

I used Peapod two years ago when my mother was very ill and I was doing everything. It was a great service to have, I used it for about a year. I still do everything but now we can get to the store.

You can buy a Podpass (when available) to save on the delivery fees. I always tipped $5.00, and they were just bringing the bags to the front door most of the time. I didn't always feel comfortable having strange guys in the house, and my mother was usually sleeping so front door was best for that reason.

Most of the drivers were great, just a few problems with that and with orders. Any problems with orders I called their CS and it was taken care of. You can use manufacturer coupons, you give them to the driver.

They still send me emails trying to get me to use it again. I would do that no problem.

Re: Grocery delivery service

I use Shoprite at Home to order for my mother.  Delivery is $14.95 and my mother tips $10.  I only use it when she needs a big heavy order.  It usually comes to $120.  I keep telling her to let the driver put it in the kitchen, but she has him put it inside the door.  Few minor blips.  My store card wasn't applied to the order.  They credited the difference and gave me an extra $10 credit.  Last time the ice cream bars were soft.  The personal shopper calls right before picking the order to see if something else needs to be added.  We love it.

Re: Grocery delivery service

I have used peapod and love their service, the driver puts my groceries right inside the front door. When I go online to shop they have certain days and times that I can get a discount on. I hate grocery shopping and use online grocery delivery often. Their minimum purchase is $65 and if I need non perishable items I order from Wal Mart because their minimum is only $35.

I have received excellent service from both companies.

I use a delivery service for my grocery shopping every week!  I love it.  They just came a few hours ago!!

I usually tip the driver 15-20 dollars to bring the packages up to my condo.  Although we have an elevator in our building we have very strict rules and we can't receive deliveries through the main lobby.  So the delivery person knows where to meet me and I escort him a back way up to my home.  Given the problems I have with various joints, I need him to bring the packages into my kitchen-- and for how involved the delivery is I usually give him 15-20 dollars.  The store charges $6.95 for delivery and a pick fee of $3.00.  My tips are in addition to that.

I also get restaurant delivery from many different services and am a bit addicted to that as well!!

Re: Grocery delivery service

I live in Indiana where Meijer just started delivery. It's $99 a year for unlimited grocery deliveries. The one bad thing is you don't get the prices in the sale ad or store. When you go through the ap the prices may be different then the store. They also have their own sale section. But I can imagine in the long run you save money on gas and impulse buys. I don't think the yearly fee is bad at all. They will deliver at any time. Even in the middle of the night if you need them to.
