So, after a mixup at the vet, my dog finally had his dental appointment yesterday (that he was supposed to have a month ago). He did fine, and they look nice in front, but the tech said there was some staining in the back that the vet couldn't totally remove. It was a little disheartening since my boy is only 2 1/2 yrs. old. I give him a Dentastick every morning, but apparently they aren't cuttin' it, so the tech recommended Greenies, which are significantly more expensive. I was really pleased when I found them on Amazon Prime last night - $19.99 plus tax for a box of 17 large treats. Still, nearly $43 bucks for a month's supply is something like 3 times the cost of Dentastix. I sure hope they work.

My question - does anyone know if there's a way to set up an auto-ship on Amazon Prime since this will be a regular repeat purchase?

Some items have the Subscribe and Save feature but you have to look close for that.

Re: Greenies from Amazon Prime?

Personally I will not give these tartar cleaning products to any dog. I tried the Pedigree Dentastix and my dog got very sick to her stomach and the runs from eating them. There have been deaths related to both products. The deaths from the Greenies for not dissolving and lodging in the throat. I would google and read all the reviews on them.

I prefer to brush her teeth now even though she liked them. She got sick pretty quickly. I ordered mine from Petco and after reading all the info on the internet I took them back to the store. Some dogs get sick and some don't, I wouldn't want to chance it.

Re: Greenies from Amazon Prime?

Greenies have been reformulated and are not the problem they use to be. I think it was around 2006. Google greenies reformulation and you can see information about it. Also on the petted site they have an article about it. I had taken my dogs off them until my vet showed me the data.

But I still am brushing their teeth daily because they will not let me skip a day.

Re: Greenies from Amazon Prime?

I won't feed Greenies to my dog. Several years ago our keeshond was eating a greenie on which she choked when a large piece broke off and lodged in her throat. It's much safer and better to brush their teeth.

Re: Greenies from Amazon Prime?

My dog has the tartar problem, too. And although my vet recommended the dental cleaning chews, I find that my dog has had problems with them. I can give him the small ones, meant for small dogs, even though my dog is about 45-50lbs. But when I have given him the bigger ones he has choked a bit OR, one time not long ago, had terrible diarrhea and some vomiting. Not fun for him, not fun for us to clean up.

Sooooo, I am going to be a better pet parent, perhaps, and start actually brushing his teeth! He is very docile and loving and I'm hoping he doesn't have any issues with me doing it.

For those that DO brush their dogs teeth, what do you use? Brand of supplies? Brush? How often?

I realize I could start another thread asking these questions and perhaps I will! Sorry to hijack this one!

I was buying Royal Treatment Products from HSN but they don't sell the dog paste anymore, even on line through Prince Borghese.com. I like the shampoo and luckily stocked up on the dog paste. One tube would last a year. Liver flavored is always good.

I only brush a couple times a week and they still look good for 16.
