It's hard to believe that it would be in foreclosure with all the tours that go on there. I'm sure the upkeep is costly though.

Although Elvis is known and loved worldwide (even my kids like his music), his home is going to become less and less relevant to future generations. We are probably the last generation to really care about it.
In my opinion, it should be sold and turned into a museum of a different sort- keeping some of the Elvis elements alive- there are graves there, for example. But maybe making it something that will appeal to generations to come while preserving Elvis' memory.
I don't think there's enough funding to keep it as it exists now.

Lien holders in a non judicial foreclosure are still required to give advance notification to the property owner and file paperwork of their intention to auction off the property to recoup what is owed to them. So Elvis' family/trust administrators would have been notified of the upcoming auction. It sounds like there are questions as to the validity of the lien and whether or not there actually was a transaction with Lisa Marie. My husband buys distressed properties at auctions and it is common at county auctions for properties to be removed from the list on the day of the auction and up to the ninth hour. There are many reasons for this. All in a days work for people involved. It sounds like the auction of Graceland can be averted.
I have visited Graceland 3 times over the years, the first time being in the 70's when Elvis was still alive. I'm not a huge follower of Elvis, I just happen to have relatives in TN. Contrary to what has been said, Graceland has improved over the years. Priscilla did a great job! In the 70's there were some junky souvineer shops across the street from the mansion. Those abandoned buildings are still there but all closed up and derelict. They are smallish. Close to those abandoned shops (next driveway) Priscilla built up acres of amazing museums that showcase Elvis' life and times. Elvis' private plane, the Lisa Marie, is near the entrance. There are also two restaurants. It's an amazing and fun time! Next to the mansion there is also a beautiful hotel/resort built in the classic southern colonial style. And around the neighborhood there are homes, some old and some newer, but far from trashy. I wouldn't consider Graceland a stand alone destination But if in the area, it is well worth a visit. Now Beale St....loud and trashy but lots of fun!

Yes I believe they have to have given 20 days notice which is why I am surprised they disregarded the notice, if it was sent.

I don't know much about this, but isn't Priscilla still alive? I would think she could get some sort of emergency stay on this foreclosure.
If not possible, just WHO is behind this?

The Estate is no longer in her hands. When Lisa Marie passed away she left her daughter in charge of the Estate. Priscilla took it to court but they worked out a settlement. She as no control over Graceland anymore.

We toured Graceland in 1997, loved everything about it.

The control of Graceland should have never been taken away from Priscilla. When it was under her control there weren't any of these problems.

Priscilla did an excellent job as the Executrix of Elvis' Estate, but he did leave all to his daughter. Upon her maturity she took over, but as an adult I do not think she had the head for business like her mother did.

Such sad news, if Lis Marie did take out a loan couldn't someone in the family come up with the money to pay the debt?
