For the past four years I have donated my blue Walmart fabric grocery bags to Goodwill. They were always so happy to get them -- made me feel good.

Today Goodwill refused them. They now have their own bags with the Goodwill logo and no longer have any use for bags with advertising of other stores.

I would disagree.

Wonder why thrift prices are going up?

I agree.  I saw a whole round rack of really crummy worn out t shirts they were asking $7.00 for.  I mean holes, faded and gnarly worn out. Some were marked with the Faded Gliry label, which meant they were probably bought for $5 brand new at Walmart lol.  That's just crazy!

@PickyPicky3

While snowbirding in Naples this year, I noticed ALL thrift stores, not just Goodwill, have significantly raised prices for similar stuff they always carried: kitchen goods and linens, wall decor, furniture, etc.

So glad we finished all the decorating in the condo a few years ago !!!

Yes, they are very expensive in my area.

Tuesdays they have a certain color tag and if you find something in the

color of the week it's $2.00.

That's the only day I will look at Goodwill. Yesterday I saw a very pretty

artificial plant there. It was around two feet tall and I checked the tag

and it was an astounding $34.99. I couldn't believe the outrageous price.

There's a small church thrift shop near me that puts out a sign once a week:

TODAY FILL A SHOPPING BAG FOR ONLY $25!!!!!

ONLY???????

I rarely go to Goodwill as their prices are considerably higher than the local Humane Society Thrift Store or the Habitat Restore.  Often the same merchandise but better prices.

That's why I prefer to donate clothes and other things to Salvation Army. There are also other non-profit agencies that gladly take items  as they support veterans, women's abuse centers, and other agencies that support people and pets in need.

Our GW doesn't use any bags you have to bring your own,or buy one of their own.

I have noticed a rise in prices and we hardly ever buy there any more.

I won't donate to Goodwill at all.  They get their merchandise free, pay their employees minimum wage, pay their CEO millions.  What a deal....for the CEO!

Re: Goodwill Elevates Its Image

I agree with every one of you. I stopped going to GW and donating to them some time last year. Ridiculous prices. Donated items. I haven't seen any spot in our town that bears their name specifically targeting homeless and needy families, despite all that's announced on the overhead speakers when you are inside the store. Their prices reflect the rampant greed our culture supports now. Lower income families NEED thrift stores and GW, imo, no longer supports our community at all.
I donate and shop at SA and another local citizen running a private thrift store that is truly selling to those in need at prices more in line with what they can afford.
