Great newsHeart Nevada and Illinois have banned the sale of animal-tested cosmetics. California already passed a similar bill earlier this year.

What does this ban mean?

Beauty products tested on animals will no longer be for sale in those states starting January 1st, 2020.

Nevada will prohibit the sale of any cosmetic for which the manufacturer "knew or reasonably should have known that animal testing was conducted or contracted by, or on behalf of, the manufacturer or any supplier."

There are however exemptions to this law, for example if a government performs the animal testing.

Does this mean all products sold in Nevada, California, and Illinois will be cruelty-free?

Unfortunately not. Products can still be tested on animals elsewhere in the world (for example, in China). Brands could also still use ingredients that are tested on animals.

Why is this still great news?

Although California, Nevada, and Illinois will not be 100% cruelty-free, it's a huge step in the right direction. It could pave the road to a future federal animal testing ban.

Uplifting and good news is always welcome!  May this continue until all states ban animal testing .  it's time to move forward and end this cruelty and enter the world of compassion and care.

Thank you for posting this.  I knew about CA but not the others.  It's not perfect but an improvement and move in the right direction.

"As required by law" usually refers to China.  They require all products sold there (not produced there) to be animal tested.

    Where is animal testing mandatory?

The Chinese government conducts mandatory animal tests on all cosmetic products imported into the country. The government may also conduct animal tests on items pulled from store shelves. Therefore, even if a cosmetics company does not test their products or ingredients on animals, if they sell their products in China they cannot be considered cruelty-free.

That is great news! Hopefully more states will follow. My wish is that the USA will be cruelty free products eventually.
