With a foot of snow on the pavement of our 40-yard-long driveway, our snow blower gave out. It is an older model that we have owned for at least 10 years, so I don't blame it for 'giving up the ghost'. We were not looking forward to shoveling out such an amount of snow by hand.
Our neighbor saw us out with our shovels and saved the day by loaning us a snowblower. We didn't know that he had both a larger and smaller model. My husband is now using the smaller machine to clear our property. Jesus moves in mysterious ways and has perfect timing. And our neighbors will be receiving a box of steaks from the local meat market.

@deepwaterdotter It is indeed a blessing to have good neighbors. We live in a cul de sac, and have the best neighbors. Everyone helps everyone else out - especially in the snow. It's one of the reasons I consider our snows miraculous. Everyone becomes more neighborly and kind. Plus, we have a few husbands in our neighborhood who would rather be outside, for any reason, than be inside - if you know what I mean. My DH may be one of them.

YES! We moved to a new neighborhood and everyone keeps to themselves. It's not my preference, but that's how it is... Nice neighbors are priceless- 💝

I'm blessed with great neighbors. I have COPD and can no longer mow the grass or shovel much and neighbors on both sides do these chores (and others) for me. I don't know how I got so lucky.

Our 2 closest neighbors. If we were gone and home was burning, not sure they would call 911.

DH clears snow from driveways of two of our neighbors. They are elderly but younger than him, but he is blessed with still having the ability to do physical labor and is by nature a helpful person. He can't stand to just sit around and be idle. He also cleans their gutters in the Fall. I wish he would stay off ladders, but that is him.
By the same token, those neighbors would do what they could to be helpful to us if need be. They are long tme neighbors.
On the other hand new neighbors that have moved in to our neighborhood are the opposite. Barely know their names and rarely even see them. Neighborly neighbors are a thing of the past in our neighborhood. Of course this is because of the age difference in our new and long time neighbors.

The family that came to our rescue today are the most recent arrivals to the neighborhood. They appear to be in their forties and have 3 teenage daughters. Most folks have been here for 30+ years and, like us, have slowed down on the physical activity necessary to maintain a homestead. The couple next door are in their eighties and hire others to mow and shovel.
This past summer for 2 weeks we collected mail and packages for the family that helped us today while they were overseas. We try to help out when we can.

You are lucky, DEEP! A good community doesn't nurture itself, and it seems that your street is modeling neighborly behavior.
On my small terrace of a street (8 houses in all, four on a side), there are three new neighbors with infant and preschool children, and they alarm me by encouraging their children to play in the middle of the street, on their bikes and trikes. There are three tiny sized basketball nets along the verge, and the children throw from the middle of the street. There have already been two emergency visits from the paramedics. Yet there continues to be a litter of tricycles in the middle of the street. These folks need to read up on the DUI incidents in this town.
I do love the sound of little kids playing. I just wish the parents would put up the toys and play areas in their yard. They have no idea how dangerous it is dealing with erratic car drivers here in FL.
I stopped bike riding years ago, after several close calls while using a bike lane but having cars veer into it suddenly....
The neighbors who have been here for a while are wonderful.

We've lived in 2 places since getting married. Both times our neighbors have been fantastic!
First house was when our kids were young. The neighbors were an older couple. Our boys played outside all year round. Lots of the neighborhood children would play at our house, too. Neighbors never complained that my sons' toys were over the property line. They were both so kind!
Now we live on 10 acres. There's only 1 house close to us. And again we've been blessed to have very nice neighbors.

We have several wonderful neighbors on our street too! They have helped us out on many occasions over the years.
