Giving and receiving compliments...

Today I went to Sam's Club.  Upon entering, a gentleman walked up to me and asked if I could do him a favor.  I said, "Sure, what?"  He said, "Never lose that beautiful smile."

Boy that made my day.  At 63 years old it has been ages since I've received a compliment.  Reminds you to saying something nice to someone can start their day right.

I'm glad that made your day. I wish you many more feel good moments.

I probably would have said thank you and thought that was like a cheesy flirtation- pick up line. I find older gentleman tend to do this and they think it's charming.

I appreciate a more direct compliment like " You really have a beautiful smile".

hoosieroriginal, how nice!  Keeping things on a positive note, if someone came up to me and said that, I would definitely have a BIGGER smile on my face as I said "thank you".   Very rare to have complete strangers give you a compliment, but how nice when someone recognizes something about you.............and tells you!  I do believe that a smile or a kind gesture can make someone's day.

Yes, something like that really does make you smile for the rest of the day, doesn't it?  I always compliment strangers lol.  Sometimes I'll keep looking at someone because I like her purse or hair style or blouse, whatever.  Finally I decided, why not tell her?  If someone said it to me, I would appreciate it, so why not?

Ah, how nice. For both the giver and the receiver. I love these little "60 second flirtations" that occur when I'm out and about. Just a smile or an acknowledgement that one looks good. Lifts the spirits.

Re: Giving and receiving compliments...

Compliments are so wonderful - both to give and to receive!

I remember about 20 years ago when my mom was taken to the emergency room (broken hip)...naturally I was harried and worried...mom was calmer than me!  Anyway, one of the ER nurses came in to check on my mom - this was the middle of the night - and said to me, "You are so pretty - you look just like your mom!"  Such a wonderful compliment (my mom looked like the 40's movie star Myrna Loy) and so unexpected - I still remember it so many years later.

I have tried to give compliments on occasion to strangers - like a girl checking me out at the grocery store who had the most gorgeous curly hair...it really lifts the spirits of both the recipient and the giver!

Re: Giving and receiving compliments...

I can't think of a better compliment @hoosieroriginal!!  Take it to heart.  Heart

I have a philosophy that if I'm thinking something nice about someone else, whoever and wherever that may be, I make sure I say it.  People need all of the support and encouragement they can get.  I have a friend who truly does see the best in people, regardless of the layers you may have to peel to reveal it.  I aspire to be that way!
