My darling  Mom is 85, still drives and lives in her big house. She has everything. Here is what she requested at Christmas, she said these are things she hates to spend her money on:

Stamps

Gas Card

Target Card

Her favorite super expensive candy

Her ultra spendy skin care/body lotion

Treats for her dog

We got her all that plus a card for her favorite local restaurant, she was thrilled.

As someone who has a Dad that will also soon turn 90, I want to tell you how wonderful it is that you're thinking of him and intend to get him something! I am always so grateful when I hear about people being nice to my Dad. It means the world to me. By the way, candy is always good!

My father is 87 and he hasn't met a candy he doesn't like!  He also loves word search puzzles, books and interesting magazines.

People that age seem to love sweets.

You have had such wonderful responses I know of nothing to add better.

I have an elderly father, and a trip out is always fun for him or someone to do any yard work is also a huge benefit.   Even some house work would be greatly appreciated.

He probably would never ask for help, but if you it for him, I am certain he would be delighted.

Any attention will be appreciated I am certain.

How VERY kind of you.

I would say no gifts as at that age they are normally down sizing and have everything they need.

Re: Gift ideas needed!

If he loves animals and doesn't have one any longer, if you have a pet, he would probably love to spend some time with it.  Otherwise, maybe just your company would be wonderful for him.

I had a neighbor in his nineties until recently, who always had a dog until the last years, and I would see him looking through the basket weave fence surrounding the area that my pups play in and talking to them, so I know he really missed having a dog.

I think baked goods or any type of food you know they like is always appreciated. A lot of older people I know seem to love those scratch off lottery cards. I have one relative that loves them so I pick out a nice card, buy about 10-20 scratch offs and include a gift card to their favorite store.

I also think that a yrs subscription to National Geographic is always good no matter the age or gender.

My dad loved homemade cookies so I gave him a cookie jar full and certificates (computer made) for a monthly refill of his cookie jar, in a flavor of his choice.
