You probably have some special memories of time(s) spent with her.  Things you learned from her, either by being taught or by her example; some amusing situation; something about her humanity, etc.  Write those up, or print from your computer, on some elegant stationary & give that to her.

We did that for one of our grandmother's 90th, & I wrote up a memory of the day she was visiting & younger sister tipped over the refrigerator.  (Don't ask; we were kids)

Give her the gift of your time.........and make the gift a year long gift.......go over an dust..........or do laundry for them.........just little things so  you have time together, you can talk...........have a cup of tea and just be......just one or two days a week, and hour or two....it's your gift to her, but in the end, I think you'll find........it's her gift to you...........................raven

well darn..............maybe a card each week, a real pretty one..........you can enclose a photo, just a photo of a moment of your daily life...........it might help close the distance...........................................raven

 We're actually in pretty close touch.  We talk on the phone and exchange notes, photos, & emails all the time.  My entire family is scattered all over the world, so we've all found ways to stay close.  Skype is one of her favorite things, and we're very up-to-date on each other's daily lives.  (She emails me while she's on her exercise bike!)

This is why I need help!  :-) It's not easy!  She has everything she wants and people to take care of all her needs (cleaning, cooking, etc), in addition to a very loving & attentive 92 y.o. husband.  :-)  So it's really been hard to think of something that I know she will love.  Thank you so much for your ideas!

She already has that, pretty much every day.  They go out to nice restaurants often too.  Thanks for your suggestion.  :-)

My family live a long distance away but have given me two different kinds of gifts that I have really loved.  (1) They found (by internet) a lovely restaurant near me that offer very elegant English afternoon tea and made reservations for two people (the date was open for me to decide).  That was lovely and very different from, say, dinner reservations.  (2) Because I love animals, on two occasions they have "adopted" an animal at a sanctuary in my name.  The first one was a reindeer and the second one was a donkey.  In both cases I received the name of the animal, plus a photo and a lot of information.  In the case of the donkey, I could then go on the internet and watch the sanctuary's webcam.  I found this to be so very different and it has given me a lot of pleasure.  If you decide on something like this, you could maybe also buy her, say, a beautiful shawl so you have something to hand her on the actual day.  I hope this helps.

There are a number of charities where you can give a goat, cow, chickens, etc. to families in need so they can feed their families milk, eggs, etc.
