Bummer about the book. I just hate when I commit to reading something only to be disappointed at the end.

The House of Leaves sounds quite interesting. It looks like a good long read which I love. When a story is good I don't want it to end right away and this one seems like I'll be reading it for a while. Thanks again.

Tsukiko, I forgot to mention "House of Leaves" will probably not work well on a Kindle. The book has writing in the margins, footnotes, all that good stuff, things scrawled across the page.

AlterEgo and MojoV, could you please provide your recommendations, a few, a lot, whatever? I'd love to know and obviously Tsukiko would too Smiley Happy

I like two cozy mystery writers who both have ghosts in them. Rose Pressey writes the Haunted Renovation mystery series and Mary Stanton's Beaufort & Company series. The first book in Stanton's series is Defending Angels and I really enjoy this series. Its not scary at all but a lawyer who helps dead people solve mysteries in beautiful Savannah, GA is a lot of fun.

I forgot, for old fashioned scary, Peter Straub's Ghost Story is a good one.

omigosh - I have literally nothing to offer! I don't get to read much, and lately stick to more action filled books. But, when I was younger (high schoolish and younger, I guess), I did used to read more supernatural books and this thread reminded me of how much I enjoyed the genre. I always love a good ghost story, but didn't consider looking any up (Kind of unrelated, I even love when it's Halloween and some of the television shows would have special theme episodes.)

Hi, is it okay to recommend a ghost story that you wrote yourself? I think if you try out my novel STOP IT. YOU'RE SCARING ME you'll have some fun. It's a ghostly tale of Vikingsholm on Lake Tahoe's Emerald Bay

I hope you like the series. I've really enjoyed it so far and its unique. Very unique characters and its doubly interesting for me since I've visited Savannah several times.

Bigtime recommendation:

"Naomi's Room" by Jonathan Aycliffe.

One of the scariest, and most eerie, books I've ever read. Don't know why it's not more well known (it's not even available as an ebook). It ought to be a classic. IMO better and scarier than "The Woman in Black." Five stars.
