Getting out of AT & T Wireless Contract

Has anyone out there ever done this? We have three phones and the first one is up to expire in May, second in Aug. and third in April of next year. The service in our area has gotten progressively worse, instead of better, calls dropped, etc. and I'm ready to try another service. Any recommendations for how to do this? Also, what about land lines? Does anyone use them anymore or do you just have wireless service?
