Re: Get them while you can, The factory has closed.

[ Edited ]

In addition to 5th Avenue, these were my favorite candies as a young child.  Oh but I recall buying a pack from a combo newsstand/candy shop that was near the Tivoli theater.

When the movie started, I went right for the chocolate wafers!

I have not eaten them in decades.

I did like the chocolate ones, but most of the others tasted like dish soap to me

Well, it makes me sad. I don't eat them often but love them. I'll have to see if I can find some. We used to send them to our friends who were in Vietnam in their "care packages". Back then, we never knew how long it would take to be delivered, especially to those in the mountains. Chocolate was not possible to send but they always seemed to love getting something sweet.

This reminds me of a coworker who would buy these to trick the toll machines on the tollways.

Oh no, I'm sad to hear this.  Those are one of my favorite candies.  I loved the spice flavors – wintergreen, licorice, clove, etc.

I buy them for long car trips. They don't melt.   I was sad to hear last week they were closing the factory so I went out looking for some.   I finally found them today at CVS,

two for one sale too.

Yuck won't miss them a bit but sorry if people lost their jobs.

I remember the nuns using these for First Communion practice, since they were about the size of the host. You just had to make sure you didn’t try swallowing one right after they put it in your mouth, otherwise you became the entertainment for that day’s practice. Smiley Happy

I'm sad to hear this too.  Those were my favorite childhood candy.  My sisters used to work trade deals on the different colors.  Smiley Happy
