Those of you who are fans probably know George Strait is a real cowboy. He owns a roping arena north of San Antonio called the Rose Palace (San Antonio Rose Palace.) He held a major roping event there every year while we lived in the area. Entrants came from all over the country. He entered but as far as I know, never won the event.

@On It Thanks for sharing this information. I've adored King George and his music for 30+ years. He's still as handsome as ever.

@On It  Thanks for sharing.  I didn't know that about George.  One of my favorite songs of his is "Amarillo By Morning."  I love songs with USA cities in the title or in the lyrics.  They call "Amarillo By Morning" a rodeo ballad.  Heart

I should have mentioned he has a ranch at Pearsall, TX and another at Cotulla, TX.

@walkingal "Amarillo by Morning" is one of my favorites. That is exactly how long the drive would be, Imagine driving all night after riding in a rodeo that evening. The distance from San Antonio is a little under 500 miles and driving nonstop would be almost 8 hours. The cowboy rides there, then goes to the next stop. It is a demanding life choice for certain. The song is a perfect depiction of a rodeo cowboy's life.

I love George Strait. We have been to several of his concerts.

Pure Country is a favorite movie of mine. Love all the songs.

@OKPrincess You reminded me of something I had forgotten. We attended a concert in Austin. My son forgot his hat, so he wore his cap instead. The girl he was with was ecstatic to be there. She had never seen a live performance. My son got her up close to the stage. George Strait looked right at them and smiled. That girl was so happy!

The rest of the story is my son took tennis lessons with the pro at the Dominion Country Club. George Strait lived in the Dominion at the time. The cap was one he bought from the pro shop that said the Dominion. If my son had worn his hat, George Strait would never have noticed them. That cap did the trick.

I absolutely love the Strait Man! I love his music, and I always stop and watch Pure Country if I am flipping channels and happen upon it.

I have so many songs that I love by him including Amarillo by Morning, Ace in the hole, The Chair, Love Without End, Amen, and The Cowboy Rides Away.

I could keep going and going. I have seen him in concert 3 times, and saw him close up in 2005 at Madison Square Garden at the CMA's. He's awesome!
