I think it makes wonderful sense for owners/administrators of companies that can make large donations of needed items to do just that.  These pillows, the cans of water -  huge need for both.

For those of us who necessarily have to make smaller donations. I think money works better most of the time.  Giving things works only when it is somehow connected to a known distribiution center.  Too much chance of things going to waste if they're not going to an organized distribution post.  Although none of us have ever lived through any as huge as the Houston mess, I've lived through floods and hurricanes both and even then the dislocations come in ways I just never imagined ahead of time.

I don't mind at all that the donations of public figures are made public one way or another.  The only reason those giving in those huge amounts is almost always exactly because they are able to give because they are already in the public eye.

Whatever his motivation might be, at least some people will have a clean and dry pillow to sleep on because of him.

Be thankful when you lay your head down on yours tonight...

Hero worship of the pillow guy? Silliest thing I've heard all week. Month.

I don't own any My Pillows only because I have plenty of pillows and they are fine.  But I think that not only is this a great idea, it is one that will probably be well received by the evacuees in Texas.

When I assisted with disaster relief in a near-by Indiana town decimated by an EF-5 tornado, the pillows they had were like little airline pillows.  Maybe just a tad bit larger.  They sure left a lot to be desired.

At any rate, those pillows may bring just a wee bit of comfort to individuals, young or old, as they spend long sleepless nights in strange places with big worries on their minds.

I like the My Pillow guy.  I've read that he's a religious person, so he probably feels like he should help for that reason.

Clearly some of these posters lead very miserable lives. Who in their right mind would be so negative, hateful, nasty, and I suspect greedy when it comes to helping folks dealing with one of the biggest disasters in our live time? Shameful, but we get to see the real  them and apparently they are proud of themselves. Very sad.

@RetRN  Some angry, bitter, hateful people have been showing up lately.  I don't get it.

We all come from the same place-humanity.  Or at least most of us.

Anyway, I hope the evacuees can have a bit more comfort while sleeping.  I volunteered in my city during the Katrina evacuees and I can tell everyone sleeping isn't easy as it is-the worry about what will be, trying to comfort the wee ones, and the discomfort of a cot.

I refuse to let the nay-sayers get me down; no matter where the disaster, no matter the people, I will give kudos to all who did the best they could do.

@Cakers3

I don't get it either.  Good grief.

DH and I were a part of the 1989 earthquake rescue team.  He went into a condemned apartment and brought out an old man with a head injury, I got the gentleman set up in a shelter with an MD.  One thing that made him happy?  He got a pillow of his own to keep.

The President and CEO of the Red Cross makes over a million in salary, I would rather jump on the coat tails of My Pillow than contribute cash to the Red Cross....but that's just me, I like taking care of immediate needs.

The Red Cross is a huge organization. The CEO deserves a very healthy salary. As long as the ratio between expenses and donations is favorable, all is good.

Hero worship for a pillow manufacturer?  Really?  I just happen to think any kindness a human being can offer to those in desperate situations should be welcome.  And do we know if he also donated money?  No we do not!

I can't even imagine the total physical and emotional exhaustion these poor souls must be suffering.  If they can lay their heads on a clean, dry pillow and feel some relief and restoration after a few hours of rest, then so be it!

Wow, @Noel7, I remember that earthquake, though I'm on the East Coast.  You and your husband are special people for helping the victims of this natural disaster.  There's always a lot of discomfort, hard work, and even danger involved in being on the ground during these crisis times.  Kudos to you and your husband!
