@Mistreatedbycs- Why would you think that?  Do you have some proof that designated money gets spent for other reasons?

When you donate, you are able to specify which fund you want your donation to go to.  If that's not happening, there would be legal ramifications.

Please point me to the information you have about this.  I'd really like to know!

The major news media are showing city, county and state leaders, as well as local charities themselves, saying "PLEASE send money, not truckloads of goods!" I have seen on the news video of warehouses of things trucked in - teddy bears, baby clothes many other things - that are not going to be given out, or able to be given out, for weeks. And the warehouse is full of them, so nothing else that might be more helpful can go in the warehouse. Just one example.

Everyone wants to somehow personalize their donation - who wouldn't? But in huge disasters like this, organizations really do need the money. Trucks, gasoline, food, and many other things need to be paid for.

That said, it doesn't matter to me what, where or how someone donates as long as they don't tell me that their charity is better than mine.

Aren't you just a ray of sunshine.  For heaven's sake-I'm sure that there will be an abundance of tax-write-offs come next April.

We get it.  You don't approve.  Remember that when you climb into your comfortable bed with your comfortable pillow tonight.  Warm and dry.

What a totally arrogant comment to make.  Just because he is " a multi millionaire", that means his contribution isn't worthy somehow in your view?  That you or anyone has the right to decide how, when or what he contributes?  Did you make his fortune for him?  No?  Then you really don't have any right to decide that.  You really just need to look at your own contribution.

@Cakers3- Well said.  I'm absolutely disgusted at some of the nasty comments being made at a time like this.  Makes you wonder what these paragons do to make the world a better place.

Clearly some of these posters lead very miserable lives. Who in their right mind would be so negative, hateful, nasty, and I suspect greedy when it comes to helping folks dealing with one of the biggest disasters in our life time? Shameful, but we get to see the real  them and apparently they are proud of themselves. Very sad.

@RetRN  Some angry, bitter, hateful people have been showing up lately.  I don't get it.

We all come from the same place-humanity.  Or at least most of us.

Anyway, I hope the evacuees can have a bit more comfort while sleeping.  I volunteered in my city during the Katrina evacuees and I can tell everyone sleeping isn't easy as it is-the worry about what will be, trying to comfort the wee ones, and the discomfort of a cot.

I refuse to let the nay-sayers get me down; no matter where the disaster, no matter the people, I will give kudos to all who did the best they could do.
