I sure would like MYPILLOW to create a fund that anyone can contribute to and they can send more pillows then.

I know it's the easiest thing to do the Red Cross but I'm still not convinced that everything that is donated goes to our people in Houston and the area.  It all goes into one big fund and distributed that way, I would like to think let's say if 10 million gets raised for Texas, that 10 million should be spent on Texas, it doesn't work like that...sad to say.

Thats why a lot of people are contributing to NFL Houston Texan's Player JJ Watt's fund where there are no administrative costs and it gets to the hurting people in Houston....

Pillows seem like an excellent contribution for stressed and tired people to use while being housed in shelters.  I thank him for his gesture of kindness.

I think its great that My Pillow is donating all those pillows.  I don't really understand the criticism.  I know that if I barely made it out of my neighborhood with only a few belongings, the fact that someone made the effort to help me without being asked to do so...I would be grateful.

At least he was doing something - I don't care if he was doing it for publicity, a tax write-off, or if some feel he should do more.  If his pillows give comfort to any of those in shelters tonight, it will be well worth the donation.  Plus it is much quicker to get them pillows then it would be to do a donation and then have the Red Cross have to go and buy pillows, and then ship them to the shelters.

For me, I prefer to believe the best in others intentions until they prove me wrong.

As others have said, donating items during the early stages can be problematic -- mainly because of the logistics, getting the right items to the right places at the best times.    Extra money is expended in delivering them and then someone needs to manage the proper distribution.   That's why it's practical -- not petty or crass -- for people to stress monetary donations.    I remember reading just a few months ago MyPillow laid off just under 10% of their workers because of a drop in sales and a glut in inventory -- it's possible it was more affordable to donate the excess inventory instead of money.    Also, in this circumstance perhaps it means more pillows were available to bring comfort to weary heads.    I'm not a fan of this company, but it's not necessary to detail the reasons here.

Whatever the case, I'm grateful for anyone who is taking steps to help those who are in need and I hope the generosity continues over the next weeks and months because this has to be a sustained effort.   Grandstanding is temporary and easy to spot in hindsight.   Some people...  many people...  will be there for the long haul.

Wow.   Didn't think pillows would become so controversial.  My take on it is that a pillow provides comfort.  My daughter had Crohn's and then developed liver disease.  She spent a lot of time in hospitals.  She had a favorite pillow and could not sleep in the hospital without it.  It was security and made her feel better.  When she passed away, I wanted to sleep all the time.  Sleep is a great healer and it gets people through many trying times.  A good pillow helps to make a good nights sleep more possible, imo. Also, for any pillow donated, that is one more dollar not needed to purchase a pillow, leaving that money free to be used for other necessities.  In a situation like these victims are experiencing, a pillow handed to me would be just as welcome as the cot, especially to the ones who weren't lucky enough to get a cot and had to sleep on cardboard on the floor.
