This is something new our grocery store chain, HEB, is experimenting with an electronic self scan and checkout in just a few stores.......
Its a special scanning device and it allows you to pay and check yourself out as you shop ....My sister loves it, you just scan your item and she puts it in her recycle bag. She can bag her groceries the way she likes as she shops and she says its so easy and no hastle of waiting in long lines. You turn in the apparatus at a special station and they dont even check it to make sure you scanned everything you bagged. To me it seems like if there are no check points wont they experience a lot of shrinkage if someone unintentionally or intentionally didnt scan a item?
My sister said the store manager said just a few stores are experimenting to see how it goes before they expand it to all their stores.........
Walmart is also testing its Scan & Go mobile app in a few states. Here’s how it works: Shoppers use either an app on their phones or a store-issued scanner to scan items as they walk around the store, probably putting them directly in bags instead of bagging them later.
When they’re ready to check out, shoppers bring their pre-scanned items to a self-checkout register, scanning a single barcode on the kiosk to purchase all items in the cart. They can also register a credit card with the Scan & Go app to pay
instantly without even having to wait in the self-checkout line.
Now Walmart has a special person in a yellow vest assigned to check over contents of the bags versus HEB that doesnt.....
What do you all think????????????

What do I think? Loss of jobs. It’s a no from me.

Yuck. I want service ,instead of all this, do it yourself stuff..People need jobs ,and this just stinks. It's only to line the pockets of those at the top, the employees will never see a penny

Our Giant groceries have been doing that for maybe 5 years. It works well. The system “audits” you if it appears your grocery bags weigh a strange amount for the items you scanned, in which case a live person comes over to take a look and scan several random items.

when i bring my daughter along to shop with me, she likes to use this feature at our GIANT grocery store. it is easy and convenient. i dont have to empty my cart out. i do believe a few others in our area have it also, including SHOP RITE.
our sams club also has this feature......scan and go......

Right there.
Out.
Maybe once all the bugs are ironed out, but now? Nope.
I don’t shop at one particular store anymore, so even though
the idea is interesting, it wouldn’t be enticing to set up for 1 store.

I wouldn't mind using that service as long as sale prices were up to date.
What about items that need weighed, how does that work? Coupons?

She said you can use coupons...and in this store they have bar codes on the produce so you just enter the quantity and it weighs and calculates the price of each item of your produce ..........

in our GIANT grocery store, they have electronic scales set up near the produce. you bag your vegetable or fruit, put it on the scale, enter the product code, then it prints out a barcode sticker that you scan and place on the plastic bag. you can then put it into your grocery bag. very easy.
when you put your device into the computer at the checkout stand it will ask you if you have coupons. it will then allow you to scan each coupon and deduct from the total. if there are any problems you can push a button to get help from a manager.

Sounds convenient but I don't want to take my phone out when I'm shopping. Now if the store had portable scanners to hand out to customers I'd be up for that. Also, I will never pay for anything from my phone so another reason why one of their portable scanners would be my choice and then I'd have to pay for it at a self check out lane or one of the others. The guy who stands by at the self check out lane has a portable hand held scanner and often will come by and just scan everything in my cart to be a nice guy. It takes him less time than any checker.
