Little things pop up for me almost daily.  I've heard them referred to as God Winks.

Example:  Over 40 years ago, I had gotten a new car and drove to upstate NY to visit a high school friend who had moved there with her husband and two young daughters.

It was a beautiful drive.  Upstate NY is gorgeous (or was back then).  Anyway, I bought 2 gifts for her daughters.  They were glass snow globes on bases that you could sit on a dresser or shelf.  I think there were Snoopy or Charlie Brown characters inside them.

Anyway, I gave each girl a globe and one of the girls dropped hers, I think the next morning, and of course, it shattered and broke all over the floor.  She was crying and crying.  Her mother came into the room and started to yell at her, and I said, no, it's not her fault, the glass should have been thicker and not so thin to break like that just rolling off her lap as she was looking at it.  I felt so bad for the kid.  Anyway, I told her I would get her another when I got home and mail it to her.

A day after I had that memory, I sit down to watch America's Funniest Videos - and by golly, they showed a video of the exact same thing happening - a kid with a snow globe that accidentally fell and glass and water everywhere.

Now what are the chances of that?  Hadn't thought about it in 40 years, and then when I do for whatever reason, I see a video soon after with the exact same scenario.

I heard these are called God Winks and they happen to me almost daily - just little things that pop up during the day.  Does this happen to any of you often?

Constantly lol.

I'm just glad to finally know what Godwink means.  A friend of mine loves the Hallmark Godwink movies and I never understood the term.  Oddly I never even googled it.

Thanks!

Coincidental events seem to happen more often the older you are. That's b/c older people have more life experiences where there is an increased awareness of patterns rather than just noting changes.

He is in charge. Coincidence or providence?

My whole experience regarding my cancer story can't be described as anything but a God thing; the way is was discovered, the speed in which testing, doctor appointments, and surgery fell into place, the ease of my recovery, the outpouring of concern from so many friends and acquaintances, all of it.  There were just too many things that at some point you say, this is more than a coincidence.  Last year DH had his own health scare which ultimately came back negative.

DH and I agreed that we are being kept here for a purpose and we need to be open to respond when we're prompted.  I don't know if you would call it a God wink or just being faithful, or maybe a combination of both. We have had a few experiences where we have had the opportunity and privilege to gift someone with an unexpected, unasked for amount of cash.  The amount has always been different.  I have no explanation on how we'd decide on the amounts but it was always the right amount.  Each time it has met an unforeseen need that was immediately around the corner for this person. ❤️

Part of the definition of a god wink is the you are being shown the correct path to something through these coincidences. I don't think that applies in this situation.

What's a Godwink?

God•wink [ɡädˈ•wingk]

  1. An event seemingly coincidental, but coming from divine origin. Always a sign of hope.
  2. Another word for answered prayer.
  3. Describes a story or movie about these experiences.

ITS ORIGIN

by SQuire Rushnell, “The Godwink Guy”

SQuire portraitIt was truly a “Godwink” that my first book of hope and encouragement was released just before 9/11, almost as if it was predestined to help a hurting nation. The new word “Godwinks” quickly entered into the language meaning those little “coincidences” that aren't coincidence, but instead, come from divine origin.

The word itself evolved while writing my first book, “When God Winks.” I had found myself wondering, “If there’s no coincidence to coincidence, what do you call it?

My dear wife Louise and I talked and prayed about it for weeks. One day that new little word floated into my consciousness⎯ “Godwink”— it was fun and friendly like “Godsend” or “Godspeed”.

I immediately substituted “Godwink” for every use of the term “coincidence” in my manuscript and it fit! Word-of-mouth phenomena took it from there and today “Godwinks” is showing up in dictionaries, has had five seasons of a monthly segment on NBC Today, and fostered enough stories to fill 12 books. Those amazing stories are the basis of four seasons of the highly popular Hallmark Godwink Movie Series and our first Netflix Movie in 2022 premiered as number two in the world.

Over time two million readers led us to a second dictionary meaning. It had never dawned on me that there was no word in the English language for “answered prayer.” Our readers began filling that vacancy by saying, “I just had a Godwink!”

The original mission of the Godwinks Brand remains unchanged: to lift the spirits of our readers and viewers with powerful and true-life Godwink stories, providing hope and encouragement.

Agree. You are speaking of synchronicities. They were studied by Carl Jung.

Far more than a simple coincidence, they are "what are the chances of this happening?"

I've had some that were remarkable and some I struggle with their meaning.

I'd never heard the word/phrase "Godwink" until the Hallmark movies, (of which I love)!  But, heck yeah, they've been happening, all the time, my entire lifetime.  I've been, & continue to be so soooo incredibly fortunate!

Thank y'all for sharing your feedback, Godwinks, & stories!  Woman LOL
