GMA This Morning

[ Edited ]

Could someone tell me what the purpose is of having a performing artist on their GMA Friday Central Park concerts whose songs have to be bleeped almost 50% due to content? Nicki Minaj's  first song "Feel Myself"  (Yah, that's the title) was missing most of its lyrics and sound due to the 15 second delays throughout the performance. And then there was the costume she had on which was see through black lace with a thong backside. Perhaps that's the reason Nicki's video for "Anaconda" wasn't nominated for a VMA and NOT the fact that the skinny girl videos get the nominations as she claims. Okay, I'm done with my morning rant now. It just had to be said.

From an old liberal fuddy-dudry...why on earth do these young singers, talented though they may be...have to look and act like street walkers in order to sell their music? They debase their talent by mixing it up with some less-than-classy displays of T&A. I'm not a prude when it comes to language. I certainly use four letter words when I feel they are appropriate to the situation. However, just being provocative is not talent. Pushing the moral code to its limit is not talent. Dressing like a you-know-what is not talent. We have come to expect and accept mediocrity if it's dressed up as a secks goddess.

I couldn't believe what I was seeing either. She is disgusting and to let her perform with all those kids watching is unbelievable. No wonder society is the way it is.

Good afternoon Rain.  They are trying to court a younger, hipper crowd.  The only problem is that targeted demo would not stop and watch a performance that has been soo drastically altered.

This old, unhip dinosaur slept though the whole thing.

That's the best way to listen to her.Smiley Wink

Fate whispers to her, "You cannot withstand the storm." She whispers back, "I am the storm."

There is no doubt in my mind that she aimed her tweet the other day at Taylor Swift, though she denies it and Taylor apologized for responding to it. I'm no Taylor Swift fan as i don't think she deserves the accolades she gets for what I consider rather ordinary talents, but she is a high energy, positive performer who pretty much performs a clean show for all of her young admirers. Nicki's behavior on American Idol and some of her videos that border on pornography cause me to turn away without even considering her diverse talents. She is one of the few rappers who can actually sing, and she has all kinds of others interests and ventures that indicate she has many creative sides to her, but she seems so negative in many ways that I can't take her artistry seriously. I'm no prude either, but this young woman could do so much more in a positive way, but chooses not to do so.

I wish GMA would do away with the concerts in the park.  Rarely have I seen any real talent featured.  While I'm thinking about it, can I just say that I miss the GMA days of old?  I loved the show when it had Charlie Gibson, Diane Sawyer, Robin Roberts and Sam Champion.  Charlie and Joan Lunden made a good pairing, too.  There used to be actual, informative segments!  Nowadays, it seems like every segment is celebrity-driven.

I have the show on in the background as I'm getting ready for work.  I know I could change the channel, but 30 years of GMA is a hard habit to break!

Oh, I get that, but bleeping most of the performance out indicates that the Central Park crowd is their only consideration, and they are hitting a much larger audience on air than live. Most of the other artists they have on try to alter things a bit, but I guess when most of a song titled Feel Myself is objectionable, that leaves them few alternatives.
