@grandma rSometimes I think it's that, overall, the market for clothing among the older generations is more limited than among working women and younger buyers.

I know I'm no where near the same buyer I was when I was working or even when I was still traveling often during my first decade of retirement.  QVC would disappear if they tried to make it on what I buy in clothes and jewelry.

As long as they keep some lines I like, that works for me.  Like you, I don't want the short and tight, but there's a larket for that.  I also don't want flouncy layers ala Logo, but there's a market for that.  I don't even want Louis' professional classics line, but, yes, there's also that market.

In my thinking, QVC is like a department store and I'm never using some of the departments, but I don't no matter where I go to shop.  Never did.

@millieshops Well said.

What's confusing is this line has zero cohesiveness.  It's a mishmash.  Jill Martin is all over the place.

Re: GILI. I'M CONFUSED

[ Edited ]

Looking back, other than the GILI sausage casingly tight leather jackets the only thing I can remember L.R. wearing is those gumby pants that dragged on the floor and a black (always black) top. Only exception I can recall is when she was on the bench in Italy she had beautiful gowns on.  I never saw her as a fashionista. Maybe I missed something.

This is why I think there is more than one person doing the designing and it's not just Jill.

@SilleeMee You may very well be right, maybe someone should let Jill know that.

I always figured they pick up stuff at trade shows in Asia and have G.I.L.I. labels sewn in.  They must have gotten a real deal on obi belts.

@SilleeMee Lisa Robertson helped QVC create the GILI  brand. She selected the styles & created the vibe.It was considered her line owned by QVC.

 When Lisa left & was questioned as to how the line is continuing she responded on FB that she never owned the line.She was just its creative director & on air representative. That is why Jill Martin was hired.Lisa is no longer connected to GILI or QVC.

LR started the brand.  Her mistake is she should have gotten a patent on the GILI name. The clothes are for the smaller person. Not a size 12. Whats a woman to do. I did not see the Halston brand for a few months and thought that they had given him the boot.  But he was on a few weeks ago. His prices are good and the quality isn't bad.

I remember LR coming up with "got it, love it".  Her Roma bag was fashioned after a Gucci bag.  Some of the jewelry was a take on pieces she found in Italy.  Now, it seems the styles are for the younger audience.  Not many women can wear skin tight pants with a top tucked in.  But, it just shows there is something for anyone.

When Giulianna Rancic had her reality show with her husband several years back, she was VERY open about her "designs" on HSN.  She would be at a meeting with about 6 other people.  A piece of clothing already produced was shown around the table.  Giulianna would suggest changing the zipper, someone else would suggest colors, the group would discuss the fit, etc.  It was definitely design by committee. In my opinion, that is how the GILI  line has worked from the beginning. Lisa might have shown something she owned or liked, and the design team would make suggestions on how to produce it for the QVC customer.

To me a designer is someone who sketches clothing, then either makes it from scratch or has it produced by a tailor or seamstress. I don't see LR or Jill Martin EVER doing that.
