Our trash can, recycle can, and yard waste container are all furnished by the city.  Both the trash and recycle cans have lids attached by hinges.  One man in the garbage truck operates the handle that attaches to the cans, lifts the can, and empties into the truck.  That person doesn't need to get out of the truck.

Our cans are always placed back in the same spot, upright.  No complaints here.

@tansy do they pick up by machine for that underground garbage?  It must take a while just to empty one container.

I put the lid on my can after pickup.  As long as it's with the can and not down the street, I'm good.  I did have one trash bin crack though so I try to keep them on the light side.

No, @Snoopp.  Someone hops down from the truck, walks halfway up the driveway, and bends down to pull the trash sacks out of the underground can.  I think it was originally designed to make the neighborhood look good.  I hope the trash collectors are well paid.

@heart of savino, I'd call the company & ask.

I called ours to report one of the young men on his cellphone while holding on the back of the moving g'truck..  How stupid was that?

People who work around trucks and equipment like farmers and such don't think a lot about that if the vehicle isn't moving at a rapid clip.  I wouldn't have called the guy's boss on it because he probably needs the job really bad.  He may have had an important call and I don't know if they get coffee breaks. . .

That's certainly not what was said by the company- they are NOT permitted to be riding on the back of the g'truck in motion, regardless of the speed using a cellphone.  what if he'd of fallen under one of those big tires, run over by a vehicle behind them?  The young man still works for the company, thank you, and there's no call that important to hang off a moving g'truck, doing between 30 and 40 miles an hour , holding on with one hand and talking on the other. In defense of myself, I called customer service, not his boss.. his boss is the driver and in charge of what these young people do.

My trashman drives one of those auto-loader trucks with the robo-arm. What bothers me the most is when my trashcan slips out of that robo-arm and falls INSIDE the disgusting truck! EEEWWW!Smiley Tongue It's happened too many times. I'm the one who has to touch the trashcan and bring it back to my house. So gross!Smiley Tongue

We must be scraping the bottom of the barrel for subjects when all we have to discuss is problems with someone's local garbage service.   How universally fascinating!

I live in an apartment...and I have to buy my own trash can and recycle can...fortunate for me...I just walk out on my back porch

and there is the trash can...don't even have to leave my porch...

I lost the lid ages ago....not the pick up mens fault...on windy days the lid takes off on its own....i finally got tired of looking for it so now my trash can is just open...

The men put my trash can back in its place...but I have to go out and put the bungee cord back on...they never do that...
