And washers and dryers are a real problem.  Someone I worked with had a washer and dryer that were on either side of the door to the garage.  She couldn't find a washer that was not too deep to open the door!

Is that nuts?

@bonnielu   There is furniture that will accommodate smaller spaces.  The store you walked thru sounds like a store trying to sell a craze (a certain style, that's it).

I had to really look hard at the dimensions of the sofa I bought last May--and it was online too. Have a very small apartment now and needed a certain legnth, so I measured and remeasured many times before I ordered. It fits nicely but is still big. Am I thrilled with it--no not really but it will do. I also think that the big oversized stuff is because the homes now days are so open concept with no walls and you need a big piece of furniture to fill up the space.

@Scooby Doo I've had the same issue with the last two homes I've lived in.  The space for the fridge was 69" in height.  It was a nightmare trying to find one that fit.  They are out there though. You just have to search.  What you gain in avoiding a remodel, you lose in capacity.  My first was a Samsung and it was terrific. The one I got talked into now is a Maytag and it's been nothing but problematic.  Run from that brand if it's an option.

When I bought my couch, they had hundreds of swatches to choose from, all sorts of fabric and patterns.

@Scooby Doo

       Just this past summer, I purchased a new 66" tall Frigidaire,

freezer on top model from Home Depot.

       If you are looking at a French door model, they are quite

large; both wider and taller. Good luck, you will find something to fit your space.

I purchased a new sofa, chairs & coffee table for my living room this year.  I had no trouble looking for pieces that fit my space.  They replaced the old pieces that I had from 25 years ago.

@CelticCrafter Haha!  I just got rid of my floral sofa that looked my Margaret Thatcher's in The Crown from the 80s.  I bought my sofa in the 90s and now replaced it with a solid.
