This reminded me of my MIL - she wrote her wishes down - she wanted to be buried in her comfortable nightgown and housedress Smiley Happy Her daughter said no way and put her in a suit dress and black dressy shoes ! I liked her idea of gown and housedress Smiley Happy

My MIL had her burial clothes all packed in a little suitcase, ready to go at a moment's notice, for years before her death.  Had her funeral all planned and paid for.  It seemed to be the high point of her life.

@shoekitty - "Queen Elizabeth will be buried at St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle. Her father, King George VI, and her mother, Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, are already buried there, along with the ashes of her sister, Princess Margaret."

After the service, Philip's casket will be removed from the Royal Vault under the chapel and buried next to hers.

I've wondered if she would be buried in something with the Royal Tartan, since she loved Balmoral so much.  I don't suppose we'll ever know.

@Venezia    We won't know unless her "confidante" personal dresser blabs.  I doubt that will happen but if anyone ever sees anything, please post.

So .... still not clear .... is she going to be buried in the ground, or above ground, in a vault of some sort?

@Tinkrbl44 - "Her Majesty's final resting place will be alongside her parents, George VI (who died in 1952) and Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, (who died in 2002), and the ashes of her sister, Princess Margaret (who also died in 2002), in a small chapel set apart from the main royal vault. The late Duke of Edinburgh will be relocated from the vault to the chapel, to lie beside his wife."

Prince Philip is currently interred in the Royal Vault beneath St. George's Chapel in Windsor.

His coffin will be moved to lie beside her in the King George VI chapel in Windsor.  (They will not be buried in the ground, if that helps.)

I would imagine there is protocol but the Queen chose whatever it is herself.  I am hoping that it is something pastel and bright and a small handbag beside her.

Re: Funeral Attire

[ Edited ]

There s a conspiracy theory on social media that the Queen's body isn't even in the coffin. It says the Royal Family wouldn't subject it to all that travelling around, from Balmoral Castle to Edinburgh to London etc.  It also says they wouldn't want to put it at risk of a terrorist attack.  Supposedly, when asked about it, Buckingham Palace said "no comment," which some take as an affirmative.

The last couple of paragraphs in the press release yesterday on The Royal Family site:

As The Queen’s Coffin is lowered into the Royal Vault, the Dean of Windsor will say a Psalm and the Commendation before Garter King of Arms pronounces Her Majesty’s styles and titles.

The Sovereign’s Piper will play a Lament and The Archbishop of Canterbury will pronounce the Blessing. The National Anthem will be sung at the conclusion of the Service.

A Private Burial will take place in The King George VI Memorial Chapel later that evening, conducted by the Dean of Windsor.

The Queen is to be buried together with The Duke of Edinburgh.

@ValuSkr    Interesting and it wouldn't surprise me.  I also bet that crown, which seems so casually placed, is firmly attached to the underside of the casket with uncuttable cable.

what I find disgusting is the practice of scattering ashes.
