Re: From Rocks to Armed Guards.....

@Carmiewrote:

I figured something like this would come about.  Most of the people in The PA county where this school district is located thought the superintendent had rocks in his head when he came up with the bucket of rocks idea.

His idea was implicated and put into place last fall, but he brought it to the public’s attention recently and it did not go over very well.

@Carmie.  The rock idea was beyond dumb.  What happens when somebody step out of hiding to throw a pebble?  Bam, that's what.  What's the pebble supposed to do?

Oh, wait.

They should have never been there.  They should have been replaced with compentent policeman.  End of story.  So, while all the kids march....blah blah blah blah, the next kid is already planning his attack and already  has his gun.  What do your suggest Sid’s Mom? Please opine.

I am going to say it again as a former teacher.  Lock the schools down, place armed guards at doors, have metal detectors, and have stricter background checks.  No I’m not one of those liberal teachers that marched with the students thinking if they did that something would get done about gun violence.  No.  This needs to come from the parents refusing to left their kids go to school until something is done.

From the bases overseas. We have been pumping money into them for decades. It's time for them to protect themselves. This has been going on since the end of WW2..The money saved would help pay for this ,or pay for all of it

Bases are where they are so we can keep an eye on our enemies as well as help out our allies, Bases are strategicly located.

Should we close the S Korean base? How will we be able to keep an eye on China & N. Korea? And we have 2 allies there — Japan & S. Korea. Having bases across the world enables ease of moving troops in the event of a war or incursion. Those bases are in place for our benefit.

They don't have to close every one. But they don't have to have them all open either

Since the majority of people who commit these shootings seem to be looking to commit suicide by causing someone to shoot them - or they plan to shoot themselves. For this reason I seriously doubt they will be frightened by threatening to shoot them.

What will stop this occurances from happening over & over - MENTAL HEALTH CARE in this country. The mentally ill in our country are being sorely neglected because of the high cost of properly treating them.

Scot Peterson was a School Resource Officer (Deputy).

Those positions are sworn in just like any other police officer.

Are you suggesting police officers should have never been there?

Because Scot Peterson was one before he resigned/retired.

”...already has his gun.”

I think we have the answer.

No gun. No shoot.

@GSPgirl, not @sidsmom here, but I would like to opine.

Blah, blah, blah, blah, and one more blah for all the incredible deflections from the fact that young men are slaugtering masses of children in our country. Does it equate with all the other reasons for our children dying? Of course not, but it takes center stage because it is horrific and endlessly frightening to all of us.

How do we treat the mentally ill? How do we discern if the shooters are mentally ill? What do we do with a possible threat?

How do we ever have enough security to stop such mass killings without turning every school in the country into an armed camp?

What do all these mass shooters in schools and elsewhere have in common? Hmmm...that would be a start, wouldn't it? But no, we have to deflect because of our God-given rights to own weapons no one should be able to own.

It's downright selfish to ignore, to deflect, and to insult those who are fighting for their lives.
