More guns is not the answer. Never was. Never will be.
And your answer is?

Sensible gun control.
Private citizens cannot buy military style weapons.
Limits to high capacity magazines.
Background checks for all gun and ammo purchases.
No guns for those on terror watch lists.
No guns for those who have been convicted of domestic abuse or other violent crimes.
Heavy penalties for those who do not safely secure their weapons in their households.
Mandatory waiting periods for purchase.
A ban on modifications that convert a gun into an automatic firearm.
Will all of this cure the problem? No, but it's a start and it's better than where we are now. None of these solutions infringe on 2A.
All of that would work for the law abiding citizens in the country. The criminals will always have guns of every kind and will be happy to sell you one should you want it. Laws only work on people who don't need them.
So create smart guns accessible by either the owner’s fingerprint or a special code. If gun gets stolen, it’s not usable by the criminal. Allow guns currently in circulation & owned by responsible gun owners to be retrofitted with this smart technology. Smart technology also prevents children from accidentally shooting others in their home (if they get their hands on a loaded gun.)

I can’t imagine people on a Board of Edu know the first thing about fending off assaults like we have seen. We need experts, people who have at least some idea of what is involved and what is needed.

@Noel7 I think the issue would be having experts advising these Boards, not that they themselves would have all the answers.
Local issues are diverse, as you know, across the nation.
The Boards are elected representatives of the schools in their districts and would be the starting point along with advisors for specific issues.
I would also imagine that some board members do have some training somewhere.

A woman I worked with for a few years was on the BofE. She knew a
lot about textbooks and related issues but would have been lost with this issue. Obviously one person does not represent all but imo we need people with a different outlook, so to speak. A different expertise.
How I see it, someone else may know more about what is needed.

I just love it when people "always" twist your words around to suit their needs, LOL!
When I said the Board of Education in each state should be responsible ........... Hello, it is their responsibility to "hire/consult" with people that are professional in this field!!! Not do it themselves!!!

@HootyWell, since I quoted you are you referring to me twisting your words??
I agreed with you about no military in our schools; I disagreed that this is just a State issue, and I believe I was pretty clear about having consultants/professionals (whoever those would be) help the Boards of Education.
Since you did not clarify that you meant having outsiders in to help, your post left the door open for me to mention outside help.
I'm not going to get into a tiff over this; I'll leave it to you to determine why you felt as though you were being singled out for a "twist" to suit a poster's needs.
I had enough of being stomped on yesterday so I will now bow out of this convo as I did yesterday.
All the best to you.

@Cakers3, I am sorry you were offended by my remark, but that was not my intention, and I did not mention anyone's name, but since you brought it up, this is the quote from @Noel7, that I was really referring to:
I can’t imagine people on a Board of Edu know the first thing about fending off assaults like we have seen. We need experts, people who have at least some idea of what is involved and what is needed.
I said it was their responsibility to see that the school children were safe, not doing themselves!!!
