Re: Freak F0 tornado Pittsburgh

@LTT1 That must have been so scary, no one can prepare for these events.

Well, it must have been on top of me!

Very strange!

Behind me is a large, mountainous, man made "field" which must create a wind tunnel. So whatever was going on above me was stopped.

However, I stood there and watched in disbelief.

I believe the designer of this complex used some very novel techniques and the "hill" behind me is one.

Perhaps this technique will be used more often in the future as a design to interfere with strong winds?

The vision of wind rushing (it wasn't a black sky as others have reported experiencing this night) ....leaves carried by at huge speeds, didn't see anything else being blown by and wouldn't you think at those speeds you would?...

The only trees nearby are scrawny ones at the top of the hill...and they weren't touched! Cars below me weren't damaged... it all doesn't "fit"

The damage in Allegheny county mostly seems to be trees uprooted, trees falling into roofs, trees falling over main roads...

@LTT1  Thank God for your well designed complex that you live in 💖🙌💯!  I would've stared in disbelief too- it must've felt like you were in a movie when that tonado was happening! Maybe the hill scoops up or stops the wind? The scrawny trees really held onto their roots that's for sure. My Aunt and Uncle live in Pittsburgh, I'll have to ask them if they got to see the tornado too.

I thought what I was seeing was very much a freak of nature!

I HEARD it first, and went to look out my glass door...expecting it to be gone as soon as it started, but no it just continued.

There was a noise that sounded like the deep sound of metal grinding!

That sound was gone in a second, but the swirling air kept going...

The NWS is evaluating. Last I heard the storm was classified as an F O ... it cause lots of damage in a very defined area here...

Allegheny county and Moon

Trees down, home damage (trees falling on roofs), one loss of life because of the tree falling on the roof...

nature seems angry.

@LTT1    Wow   My whole family lives in Pittsburgh.   I have to make calls and make sure everyone is ok.   @LTT1   Thank God your okay!  Stay safe.

@BalletBabe

Thank you so much.

As I have been posting about this here, I realize the error of my ways...

if a large item had been inside this freaky thing, such as a tree or 2x4, etc, it might have come thru my glass on a direct path, so standing right there was a bad idea.

I hope your family had nothing from it.

There has been very little discussion of this so far. I believe here in Pittsburgh vs Texas, the geography must prevent or halt their forming. (?)

Tornadoes come in all sizes and various wind speeds and can go in different directions and go up and back down.  With the right tornado, the smallest of objects can become lethal projectile "weapons".  Standing in your doorway was risky to say the least.  If such a rare occurrence happens again, go to the interior (no windows) of your house. Bathrooms are good because of the extra sturdy materials used to build them.  I sat in my husband's bathtub with pillows all around me this spring when we had tornado warnings.  Glad you're ok!

Well, it must have been on top of me!

Just a FYI...if a tornado doesn't appear to be moving, it's coming straight at you.

EGADS!
I don't know what to think then?

Maybe at my location this was just what they call "straight line winds?"

But the stuff in it was rotating?
