Re: Fraternity suing Rolling Stone

I am not a fan of frats in general but that is independent of my opinion that heads should roll at RS.

As for frats and sororities, there is a very strong binge drinking culture, as there is in college in general, and sexual assaults are included in the mix. In the particular case, RS messed up big time.

Sham, RS can't 'fire' the reporter in question, they are not an employee of the magazine.

Rolling Stone was a fun, edgy, 'counter-culture' publication back in the day, witha focus on music. When they tried to pose themselves as a serious journalistic endeavor perhaps someone should have explained to them what that means...

Rolling Stone has always been about more than just the music. The focus was the culture of the music scene, particularly as it relates to the cultural evolution, but there were always articles on issues that were at the forefront of society.

True enough... Still, if they're going to write on any subject, it behooves them to check facts...

Agree to disagree and all that.

Oh please... ignoring facts around here doesn't have serious repercussions...

I agree, but it's not as if cable news doesn't ignore actual facts each and every day, and no one comes at them and demands their bankruptcy. I looked up some things on the journalist, and this seems to be the first blemish on her long career.

I can honestly say that this is one suit that should happen, and the penalty should scare every media outlet.

RCG, I don't know anything about the writer but what you've said about cable news goes for talk radio and numerous web sites and is absolutely spot on, imo.

Great news. I hope they win big. Two of Jackie's friends were on Megyn Kelly last night. I am sure you can find the video on line. This story is disturbing on many levels.

I just watched it. Shameful.

Thank you. This article lead me to another one that spelled out the timeline of the case:

Hard to believe that even after the RS retraction, the Washington Post article(s) and now the Columbia University School of Journalism analysis that there are those who continue to believe that fraternities and sororities are at fault.

Strange isn't it?

Also, these assaults on campus are not limited to fraternities and sororities. They are a problem period and that is why this bogus article undermines attempts to get to the truth.

Re: Fraternity suing Rolling Stone

The reporter who, wrote the story was a free lance journalist and can't be fired because she is not a employee. however the managing editor of RS stated that she will continue to write for the magazine which I find disgraceful. In addition none of the editors involved in the story will be censured or disciplined in any way. In other words this investigation done by Columbia School of Journalism was nothing but a PR ploy by RS and they never intended to,take any action to correct the errors that were pointed out.
